This past Sunday, the Vietnamese Physicians Association of Southern California’s (VPASC) Free Health Fair was a hit! Over 1,000 people showed up to access flu shots, cancer screening consultations, dental care, and other health services. I’m proud to have sponsored this event at Freedom Hall where VPASC’s medical professionals provided outstanding medical services to our community. Special thanks to all of our sponsors including Supervisor Michelle Steel, Assemblyman Tyler Diep, CalOptima, and others!

The County Prevails in its Lawsuit Against the OC Needle Exchange Program
The County of Orange has prevailed in its lawsuit against the Orange County Needle Exchange Program (OCNEP). OCNEP was a dangerous program that created hazardous conditions for all of Orange County’s residents. Last week’s victory means safer and cleaner streets while requiring the state of California to comply with its own statutes. I’m relieved that Orange County residents will not be subjected to the public health hazards associated with a major increase in dirty needle litter.

Last Saturday was DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Last Saturday was the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. Unused prescription medications that aren’t disposed of safely can put children and families at risk. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained easily from family, friends, and even from the medicine cabinet at home. You can find a disposal location near you by checking out the DEA’s website.
