Independence Day Parade!

I celebrated Independence Day and our great nation’s 243rd Birthday with hundreds of thousands of fellow American Patriots in Surf City USA at the Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade.

Perfect weather, awesome floats, and a jammed-packed route of families and friends. It doesn’t get any better than this!

My heart was so filled with gratitude and American Pride. What a great country we live in. Thank you to all who work so hard to put on the largest 4th of July Parade west of the Mississippi River. Such an fantastic event!

Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos Annual Fireworks Spectacular

Thousands of local residents from surrounding Second District communities came out to Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos for the annual Fireworks Spectacular

I had staff on hand to offer celebratory remarks on my behalf.
Congratulations to the cities of Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, and JFTB for hosting another fine event for families to celebrate American Independence!

Recognizing Dr. Kimberly BeDell and California Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation

It was a pleasure to recognize Dr. Kimberly BeDell and California Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation at the Orange County Human Relations Commission Meeting for being the inaugural recipient of the Commission’s ‘Good Will Award’.

California Children's Rehabilitation Foundation was started in 2007 during a chat between two friends discussing their careers and what they had yet to accomplish. The result was a non-profit called CCRF.

The mission of CCRF is to assist children and their families with special needs. The Board of Directors for CCRF and
numerous volunteers work diligently each year on a new project.

Everyone involved in CCRF is a volunteer. All donations generously come from friends and supporters in the community. The funds generated during each year go directly toward equipment for the children. CCRF has no employees and does not lease property.

CCRF relies on gracious individuals and corporations who feel compassion for these young individuals facing various challenges, whether those challenges are physical or cognitive.

They have purchased equipment for children with cerebral palsy, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, muscular dystrophy, autism and cancer.

In the past ten years, CCRF has donated equipment for pool therapy, sensory integration, augmentative communication, spinal cord medicine, adaptive bicycles, Bioness, and in-room therapy devices to Miller Children's and Women's Hospital Long Beach, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, and California Aquatic Therapy and Wellness Center to be used by children and teens in Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Kern, and Ventura Counties.

Congratulations Dr. BeDell for this well-deserved honor!

Official Merging of Boys & Girls Clubs of Anaheim and Boys & Girls Club of Cypress

It was a pleasure to have staff on hand to recognize the official merging of Boys & Girls Clubs of Anaheim and Boys & Girls Club of Cypress. The Ribbon Tying Ceremony took place at the Diamond Club in Angel Stadium.

This bold and forward-looking move will allow the new Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Anaheim-Cypress to serve more youth with greater impact. Both Clubs have long histories of service; have collaborated successfully together; and believe that joining forces is the next right step for making an even greater difference for their communities.

Congratulations to Jeff Morin, Jon Peat, Jon Machiaverna, Anne Hertz, and the rest of their Board of Directors and staff. I’m excited for for all of you!

Orange County Waste & Recycling

Have you ever been a Wishcycler?

Wishcycling is placing an item in the recycling bin without being certain it belongs there. Although well-intentioned, it can cause more harm than good. Items that do not belong in a recycling bin can potentially contaminate a good batch of recyclables or damage sorting machinery at collection facilities. According to OC Waste & Recycling, some common wishcycled items are:

  • Wire hangers
  • Cardboard pizza boxes with leftover grease
  • Razor blades
  • Batteries
  • Laminated paper

Recycling the right way will benefit the environment. To stop wishcycling you can:
