Remember to Protect Yourself and Those Around You

I ask the residents and visitors of Orange County to please wear a face covering when you are in a public place and unable to properly social distance, as well as following hygiene and social distancing guidance. This is of the utmost importance to stop the spread of the virus.

We must also remember that we must protect public health while allowing people to go to work safely and responsibly, so they can pay their bills and feed their families. We don’t have to sacrifice public health for the economy, or vice versa, when we can focus on ensuring both are protected.

Board Approves Chairwoman Michelle Steel’s Proposals for Food Security and Funding to Skilled Nursing Facilities and Community Clinics

On Tuesday, October 20th, The Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved two proposals that will secure essential food and high-quality health care for Orange County residents.

The first, co-authored by Supervisor Donald P. Wagner and I will provide an additional $3 million of funding to Support the Second Harvest Food Bank and the Community Action Partnership of Orange County.

As we continue to navigate this crisis, its vital that the county has been has all the resources it needs to assist those most negatively impacted by the economic impacts caused by the state lockdowns. With this financial support that will be administered by the Social Services Agency, the Orange County Residents that rely on food bank support for meals will continue to get the support they need.

The second item, co-authored by Vice Chair Andrew Do and I will provide $4.5 million in funding assistance to 66 skilled nursing facilities and 23 community clinics amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

This funding will support equipment, supplies staffing, training, and help the facilities provide high quality medical care for our most vulnerable populations. Providing this essential assistance will help protect the health of our most vulnerable and help us get people get back to work safely.

October 29th Drive Thru Grocery Distribution Event with Saddleback Church

I am excited to be joining with Saddleback Church and the City of Huntington Beach on Thursday, 10/29 from 8:00AM - 11:30AM at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex parking lot. We will be distributing groceries to Orange County residents in need of food assistance during the COVID19 Pandemic.

I want to thank Huntington Beach Mayor Lynn Semeta for co-sponsoring this event. Additionally, a big thank you to Saddleback Church for donating all of the groceries that make this possible.

Huntington Beach Police Department Chief Rob Handy Retirement

Huntington Beach Police Department Chief of Police Rob Handy has officially retired. He had a distinguished law enforcement career spanning more than thirty years. HB was blessed to have him as their Chief for the last seven years.

Chief Handy was extremely effective and great to work with. While I am sad to see him retire, he has more than earned it. The good news is he and his lovely wife and family will continue to reside in HB and stay involved in the community.

It was a pleasure to have staff offer remarks and present him with a certificate of recognition commemorating the occasion at the City Council meeting on October 20th.

County Service Center Receives 100,000th Customer

On Thursday, October 15th, I joined Supervisor Andrew Do, Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen, Treasurer Tax Collector Shari Freidenrich and County Executive Officer Frank Kim in presenting the County Service Center's 100,000th customer with a small basket of county promotional items as a recognition of this milestone for Orange County. I am happy to see all the progress that has been made since the opening of the County Service Center last year and all the great services it has provided for Orange County residents.

Taiwan National Day Virtual Celebrations

I had the privilege of being invited by the Taipei Economic And Cultural Office In Los Angeles to be a part of a virtual celebration of The Republic of China's (Taiwan) 109th National Day Celebration with other local elected officials from California, Arizona and New Mexico. While it is unfortunate we could not celebrate in person this year due to the ongoing pandemic, this special day is no less important. I want to wish Taiwan and the Taiwanese communities around the world a happy National Day.
