Remember to Protect Yourself and Those Around You

I ask the residents and visitors of Orange County to please wear a face covering when you are in a public place and unable to properly social distance, as well as following hygiene and social distancing guidance. This is of the utmost importance to stop the spread of the virus.

We must also remember that we must protect public health while allowing people to go to work safely and responsibly, so they can pay their bills and feed their families. We don’t have to sacrifice public health for the economy, or vice versa, when we can focus on ensuring both are protected.

Michelle Steel Joins Ribbon Cutting Event for Opening of Cameron Lane Navigation Center in Huntington Beach

On Monday, November 2nd, I joined the Huntington Beach City Council, Mayor Lyn Semeta, shelter operator Mercy House, representatives from the Orange County Health Care Agency’s Office of Care Coordination, and other elected officials for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the Cameron Lane Navigation Center in Huntington Beach, a new transitional shelter for Huntington Beach’s homeless population.

Cameron Lane will care for up to 174 homeless adults living in the city. Cameron Lane will allow clients to stay all day, provide 3 meals a day, have medical assistance as well as mental health and substance abuse programs, have on site

laundry, showers and bathrooms, will have a dog run for people with pets and a shuttle service available for transportation in and out.

Further, it will ensure the security of the individuals staying in this facility as well as the surrounding community by accepting clients by referral only through City net, County and City Outreach, and local law enforcement. Background checks will be conducted on the clients before accepting them and the facility will not permit walk ups or walk offs and will strictly forbid sex offenders or individuals with active felony warrants.

I am extremely proud to partner with the City of Huntington Beach and Mercy House in the development of the Cameron Lane site to serve those who are experiencing homelessness.

Michelle Steel Signs Emergency Declaration for Silverado and Blue Ridge Fires

On Tuesday, October 27th, I signed a Declaration of Emergency for the Silverado and Blue Ridge fires which, while over 90% contained as of November 3rd, have burned down over a combined 28,000 acres and have required the evacuation of over 100,000 Orange County residents.

This declaration gives local agencies the required tools to fight and contain these devastating fires. I also asked the governor to declare a state of emergency and make all relevant funds available to Orange County responding agencies, community members and businesses affected by these fires.

Michelle Steel Joins OC Fire Authority, Sheriffs Department and Local Elected Officials to Address Blue Ridge and Silverado Fires
On Tuesday October 27th, I joined Orange County Fire Authority Chief Fennessy, CAL FIRE Chief Veik, Brea Fire Department Chief Adam Loeser, Irvine Police Department Chief Mike Hammel, OC Sheriff Don Barnes, Christina Shea, Irvine City Mayor, City of Lake Forest Mayor Pro Tem Mike James, Mayor of Yorba Linda Beth Haney,  and Supervisor Don Wagner in a joint press conference to address the ongoing wildfires endangering Orange County communities and the efforts that all of us are taking to contain this fire and protect Orange County residents.

I discussed the emergency declaration I signed earlier today to give local agencies the required tools to fight and contain these devastating fires as well as asking the governor to declare a state of emergency and make all relevant funds available to Orange County responding agencies, community members and businesses affected by these fires.

I am grateful for the dedication and hard work of our first responders and emergency personnel, who managed to almost completely contain the Blue Ridge and Silverado fires in one week's time with very little structural damage and no fatalities.

On Thursday, October 29th, I joined Saddleback Church  from 8 - 11:30AM in Huntington Beach at the Sports Complex to distribute groceries to thousands of Orange County residents in need of food assistance during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Michelle Steel to Host American Red Cross Blood Drive In Newport Beach

On Tuesday, November 24th, I'll be joining the American Red Cross for another blood drive. Now, more than ever, as we continue our fight against COVID-19, we need dedicated members of our community to help those in need. Appointments are required and all blood donations will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies.

Holidays
First Responders Day

In honor of First Responders Day, its important that we remember the sacrifices that Firefighters, police, paramedics, and so many others make to protect all of us from harm. As we continue to face COVID-19 and the two wildfires endangering Orange County, please take a moment to give thanks to all of those that keep us safe.

Happy Halloween!

I hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween!
