Michelle Steel and Don Wagner Announce Representatives for the Orange County Business Recovery Adhoc Committee

On April 20th 2020, I, along with 3rd District Supervisor Don Wagner announced representatives for the recently announced Orange County Business Recovery Adhoc Committee.

We have asked our local city council members and Mayors, business leaders, and public health experts to join me in forging a responsible and effective plan to mitigate the economic damage we’ve seen from COVID-19.That’s why Supervisor Wagner and I have launched the Orange County Business Recovery Adhoc Committee.

Rotary Club Mask Making

On the morning of April 18th, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Huntington Beach, and yesterday in Fountain Valley, I helped Rotary İnternational District 5320 - which encompasses all of Orange County - and Rotary Clubs from across the county, to assemble fifty thousand face shields critically needed by our #OCCOVID19 First Responders and Frontline Healthcare Providers.

As it should be, our religious organizations and service clubs are voluntarily rising to the challenge to help defeat #COVID19 and save lives. This is America at its finest.

I was joined by Huntington Beach Mayor Lyn Semeta and Councilman Patrick Brenden, as well as Fountain Valley Mayor Cheryl Brothers, Mayor Pro Tem Michael Vo, and Garden Grove Mayor Steve Jones. Many Rotarians pitched in as did countless volunteers.

A heartfelt ‘Job well done!’ To all the Rotary Clubs who took the initiative to lead this project. I’m so proud of everyone involved. If you are willing to help, please visit : https://rotary5320.org to volunteer!

PPE Donations from Korean and Chinese Communities

On April 14th,  Supervisor Don Wagner & I accepted generous donations of personal protective equipment from the Korean American community of California, delivered by South Korean Consul General Wan Joong Kim, and three local non-profit organizations: the TOC Foundation, the Elegant Culture and Tradition Center, and the Chinese American CPA Association. These donations will go to the Orange County Health Care Agency for use by county health care workers and first responders.

Calvary Chapel Easter Food Drive

It was truly a blessed Easter morning yesterday at Peter’s Landing in Huntington Beach as Calvary Chapel of the Harbour started the first day of their Food Drive & Drive up prayer station. HB Councilman Patrick Brenden and I joined with Pastor Joe Pedick and members of his congregation in collecting non-perishable food, donations, gift cards from local establishments, and other necessities, for identified families and Seniors in need in the surrounding communities.

Many well-wishers honked their horns and waved as they drove by on PCH. Some even came back to donate items and take advantage of of being prayed for from the comfort of their cars. As I watched Pastor Joe praying for a family while others were dropping off food, I thought, ‘This is what Americans do in time of crisis in towns all across our blessed nation. They help one another and look out for those in need.’ My heart was overjoyed and I thanked God for the significance of the moment.

April 9th Press Conference

On April 9th, I spoke at the County of Orange Press conference:

While we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, we at the county will continue doing what we can here at home to focus on the future. I know we will beat the coronavirus, but our economy has to recover.

That is why at Tuesday’s board meeting, I directed county staff to prepare and plan for an ad-hoc committee of the board of supervisors to work with OC business leaders to ensure that we help these small businesses bounce back fast, so all of our hard working employees can get back to work and to their normal lives.

This committee is going to be looking at many factors. One area, family owned businesses, are of particular concern to me. I used to own a small restaurant with my mom years ago and I know how tough it is to open back up after closing down or limiting services.

Helping these family owned businesses get back on their feet are of personal concern to me and that is going to be an important part of this committee’s focus

Letter to Governor Newsom Requesting Property Tax Deadline Extension

On April 8th, I sent a letter to the Governor requesting that the property tax deadline be extended due to the fact that so many Californians have been negatively impacted as a result of the economic fallout from Coronavirus.

Holidays
Holocaust Remembrance Day

On Tuesday, April 21st, we celebrated Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this day, we memorialize the senseless genocide of six million Jews by the government and proxies of Nazi Germany. These innocent people were taken from their homes and sent to their deaths simply for their religious and ethnic background. The Jewish people are stronger today and have not only been able to create a homeland for their people but have thrived since. We must never forget these tragic events and always teach the next generation of Americans that this can never happen again.

Celebrating Easter Sunday

On Sunday, April 12th, we celebrated Easter Sunday, the resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While many of us were unable to spend our Easter with loved ones due to the coronavirus, we were bonded together through the Holy Spirit as we celebrated this very important day. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!

Celebrating Passover

From the evening of April 8th, through the evening of April 16th, our Jewish friends celebrated the Holy Passover, which commemorates the Exodus of the Israelites as they escaped from slavery in ancient Egypt as God inflicted ten plagues upon the Egyptians before Pharaoh released the Israelite slaves, so they could travel freely to the land of Israel. Many of our Jewish friends were unable to unite with their loved ones on this holy day, but they were together in spirit as they celebrated this very important day for the Jewish people. I hope everyone had a wonderful Holy Passover!
