Supervisors Approve Appointment of Michael B. Giancola as County Executive Officer
(Santa Ana, CA) – The Orange County Board of Supervisors selected Michael B. Giancola to serve as County Executive Officer (CEO) on May 7, 2013.

Giancola has served as the Director of OC Waste & Recycling since 2009 and has been employed by the County of Orange for more than 30 years. Giancola first joined the County as a Park Attendant at Mile Square Park in 1977.

“There’s just something so rich and vibrant about someone who’s worked their way up,” said Spitzer during Tuesday’s board meeting. The experience gives Giancola “empathy and understanding” for the 17,000 county employees he now oversees, Spitzer said.

During his 27 years with OC Waste & Recycling, Giancola assumed several management roles, including the position of being the first manager of Orange County’s recycling program. As the Director of OC Waste & Recycling, Giancola led the department to expand renewable energy opportunities at the County’s landfill sites and revised solid waste permits to provide Orange County with long-term disposal capacity.

Giancola received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He is a former President of the Southern California Founding Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America and is a graduate of the Orange County Leadership Academy.
