Citywide Neighborhood Watch Meeting in Villa Park on September 30th
(Portions courtesy of the City of Villa Park)

There will be a citywide Neighborhood Watch meeting for residents of Villa Park on Tuesday, September 30, 7:00 PM at Villa Park City Hall in the Towne Centre. The purpose of the meeting is to revitalize Neighborhood Watch throughout the city as a volunteer program managed by citizens themselves. Help is needed from volunteers willing to improve or implement communication within individual neighborhoods throughout the city to more effectively protect people and property by simply looking out for each other.

A representative from Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be on hand to answer questions and offer suggestions. A map of the city will be subdivided, and residents will be able to mark off the homes/streets that they are able to readily access. The success of the program depends upon the establishment of informal groups of neighbors who will relay communication about criminal activity, safety issues, hazards and concerns swiftly and efficiently without need for centralized direction.

Those willing to participate are urged to come to the meeting and help rebuild Neighborhood Watch so that Villa Park residents will have that extra level of security that comes with small communities and neighbors who look out for each other. Coordinating the revitalization effort are Wayne and Mary Silzel of Villa Park, who have served in the Neighborhood Watch program for 35 years. For further information, please contact the Silzels at mrsilzel@gmail.com or (714) 538-4106.

(Portions courtesy of Girl Scout of Orange County)

The Girl Scouts of Orange County have announced six extraordinary local female leaders, all Girl Scout alumnae, who will be recognized at the organization’s Fifth Annual “Celebrate Leadership” event on November 7, 2014 at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach. The Celebrate Leadership Honorees will each be paired with a current Girl Scout at the event, giving the leaders of tomorrow an opportunity to connect with a current leader.

“Providing positive leadership and mentoring opportunities is an important part of preparing our youth to be leaders in the future,” Supervisor Todd Spitzer said. “The women being honored have made great contributions to Orange County and will make great role models for the Girl Scouts.”

The Fifth Annual Celebrate Leadership event is chaired by Donna Giordano, President of Ralphs Grocery Company, and Shannon Kennedy, Regional President for BNY Mellon Wealth Management. This signature event will host over 400 of Orange County’s community and business leaders. Funds raised will support Girl Scouts of Orange County’s leadership development programs for more than 22,000 Orange County Girl Scouts and more than 10,000 dedicated Girl Scout Volunteers who lead them. The event will also feature a live auction and silent auction.

For more information about this event, contact Vikki Shepp at (949)461-8817 or vshepp@girlscoutsoc.org. Click here for more information about Girl Scouts of America.
