Community Forum Announced for Input on 1000 N. Kraemer Place, Anaheim

1000 North Kraemer Place, Anaheim

The County of Orange will conduct a Community Forum on September 30, 2015. The Kraemer Community Forum will be held at Eastside Christian Church located at 3330 East Miraloma Avenue, Anaheim, CA 92806 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Community Forum is open to the public and will be structured to give residents, businesses and other interested stakeholders the opportunity to receive additional details on the County’s best practice shelter plan which includes operational and management guidelines as well as public safety and security strategies. This is the second Community Forum regarding this project. A panel will present an Operations Plan and Public Safety Plan in consultation with Anaheim Police Department, Orange Police Department, Fullerton Police Department and Placentia Police Department that identifies best practices in the operation of a homeless service center and shelter. The Operations and Public Safety Plan are scheduled to be presented by representatives from the Commission to End Homelessness and the Anaheim Police Department, respectively.

After a panel presentation, the public will be invited to submit comments and ask questions.

On June 2, 2015, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved a purchase and sale agreement for 1000 N. Kraemer Place, Anaheim. The action began a due-diligence process, including environmental site assessments, and structural and physical inspections. The California Environmental Quality Act review process was also initiated. Community Forums are also a component of the due diligence process.

No vote(s) or formal action will be taken at this meeting. Any future change in use of the Kraemer site would require approval of the Orange County Board of Supervisors at a publically noticed meeting open to the public. This vote would occur after the conclusion of the County’s due diligence process, which at this point is anticipated to occur in November 2015.

OC Parks to Hold Workshop on Peters Canyon Regional Park to Present Alternative Analysis

OCTA Director and Tustin Councilman Al Murray, OCTA Director and Third District Supervisor Todd Spitzer and OCTA Chairman and Irvine Councilman Jeff Lalloway at Orange County Transportation Agency Bike Path Workshop

(Portions Courtesy of OC Parks)

OC Parks will hold a workshop from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on October 7, 2015 at OC Fire Authority Headquarters to present and solicit public input on several alternative alignments for a segment of a proposed bikeway that would travel through or adjacent to Peters Canyon Regional Park. Supervisor Spitzer is scheduled to host the meeting.

In early 2015, OC Parks initiated the public input process to create a General Development Plan (park plan) for Peters Canyon Regional Park. One of the items being considered for the park’s trail plan is a paved multi-use trail that would traverse the park. OC Parks has received public comment to consider alternative alignments for the multi-use trail.

OC Parks has hired an engineering firm to prepare an analysis of the proposed alternative trail alignments. At the upcoming workshop, OC Parks and the consultant will present various trail alignment alternatives for consideration and public input.

OC Parks wants to hear from all Orange County residents even if they are unable to attend the workshop. The presentation and exhibit maps will be available after the workshop on the project website at www.ocparks.com/parks/peters/general_development_plan

Thoughts on the project can also be sent to OC Parks at peca@parks.com. The County looks forward to the public’s participation in the planning process to improve Peters Canyon Regional Park for the enjoyment and recreation of all Orange County residents.

John Wayne Airport Opens a Cell Phone Parking Lot to Help Visitors

Cell Phone Lot

(Portions courtesy of John Wayne Airport)

John Wayne Airport (JWA) recently opened a new Cell Phone Waiting Lot. Located on the south end of Airport Way, near the corner of Campus Drive and MacArthur Boulevard, the lot features free parking where visitors picking up passengers can conveniently park for up to two hours to wait for arriving friends or family.

JWA estimates that roughly half of all passengers arriving at the Airport are picked up at the curb by a private party. The Cell Phone Waiting Lot is located close to the Riley Terminal so meters and greeters will be able to pick up their party within minutes of their arrival at one of the color-coded and numbered columns along the Arrival (lower) Level roadway.

In addition to providing a convenient new parking option for customers, the Cell Phone Waiting Lot is expected to reduce traffic and vehicle emissions from drivers who would otherwise be circling the Airport roadways waiting for their party to arrive.

For more information on parking options at JWA, check out the “Parking & Transportation” section of our website, ocair.com, or call (949) 252-5200.

Orange County Community Emergency Response Teams Program Wins National Award
(Portions courtesy of OC Sheriff Department)

The Orange County Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) Mutual Aid Program was awarded the 2015 FEMA Individual and Community Preparedness Award for Outstanding CERT Program Initiatives. Four of the founding CERT Mutual Aid Program (CMAP) members, including the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Management Division, accepted the competitive award in Washington D.C. at FEMA headquarters.

Created more than a decade ago, CMAP was tasked with the goal of coordinating Orange County CERT programs with training, exercises and events. Beginning with only nine of the county’s cities, CMAP grew into a collaboration of 24 CERT programs from both cities and universities. Comprised of CERT programs that collectively work together during disasters, CMAP quickly became a model for the entire nation on regional collaboration.

The mission of CMAP is to harness the power of every individual through education, training and volunteer service to make communities safer and better prepared to respond to threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues and disasters of all kinds. CMAP’s vision is to improve volunteer response and preparedness initiatives throughout the Orange County area.

To that end, CMAP developed a comprehensive mutual aid plan that lays the groundwork for volunteers from 24 separate municipal CERT programs to collaboratively ensure that volunteers are trained to respond to any large-scale incident. Since its inception, CMAP has been activated to support response efforts for wild land fires in 2007 and 2008, as well as numerous other local incidents. CMAP is comprised of 24 Orange County cities and five affiliated organizations in addition to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
