Supervisor Spitzer drove in the final bolt |
|
Supervisor Todd Spitzer and OC Parks Director Stacy Blackwood spoke at the event and cut the ribbon. Supervisor Spitzer also drove in the final bolt on the deck and released a rehabilitated hawk. County COO Mark Denny and Irvine Ranch Conservancy Executive Director Mike O’Connell also were in attendance.
The new viewing deck will provide breathtaking views of Orange County wilderness while helping visitors avoid damage to the surrounding sensitive habitat areas. The path leading to the deck is a short, winding switchback trail constructed to minimize potential erosion and blend sustainably and seamlessly into the hillside vegetation.
The deck is 8 feet wide and 24 feet long on a low raised platform and was constructed from plantation cedar and recycled plastic rail caps. The deck can hold up to 20 visitors at one time. It is identical in size and materials to its companion West Sinks Viewing Deck. Visitors can visit one or both decks during scheduled programs such as Wilderness Access Days or docent-led programs, held regularly. The two decks are approximately 4 miles from the Portola or Augustine staging areas and just over one mile apart.
