Orange County Great Park’s Sports Park Grand Opening |
|
(L to R): Five Points CEO Emile Haddad, Supervisor Todd Spitzer, US National Soccer Players Brad Friedel and Amy Rodriguez, and Assemblyman Steven Choi at the grand opening festivities. |
|
Supervisor Todd Spitzer joined the public at the Grand Opening event of the 194-acre Orange County Great Park Sports Park on August 5th.
The new sports park features a 2,506-seat Championship Soccer Stadium. |
The park celebrated with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Supervisor Spitzer along with Irvine Mayor Don Wagner, City Council Members, and Five Points Developer Emile Haddad. World-renowned soccer superstar Landon Donovan of the LA Galaxy and US National Soccer players Brad Friedel and Amy Rodriguez also greeted the thousands of residents, athletes, families, and fans at the event.
An OC All-Stars soccer match on the newly opened field followed the ribbon-cutting, and a free concert with the Blues Brothers, Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi, finished off the evening.
Throughout the day, special exhibitions took place across the six soccer fields, 25 tennis courts, and five sand volleyball courts. Food trucks served up delicious food into the evening, while the crowd at the new Championship Soccer Stadium celebrated until the sun had set. |

|
Supervisor Todd Spitzer’s Field Deputy Al Tello attended the “Mega” Citizenship Clinic hosted by Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Los Angeles office (Advancing Justice-LA) to help Korean immigrants prepare for the federal test to become naturalized U.S. citizens. Over 150 clients were helped at this “mega” clinic on July 29th. The event praised the “endless possibilities [that] await” once the clients become U.S. citizens. Becoming a naturalized citizen is often a long process, but groups like Advancing Justice-LA help these individuals navigate the citizenship path.
Several organizations assisted Advancing Justice-LA in preparing for the event, including Korean Community Services, Korean Resource Center, Korean American Center, Buena Park shopping mall The Source, and Orange County Korean American Bar Association.
Supervisor Spitzer is proud to have the Asian Americans Advancing Justice as a partner in building a strong and diverse Orange County. |

Summer Concerts in the Park! |
|
OC Parks holds concerts across the County throughout the summer. |
|
It’s summertime here in Orange County, and that means it’s also concert season! Attending a concert in the park is a fun way to share in the spirit of community and enjoy those extra hours of summer sunlight.
Supervisor Todd Spitzer and two interns attend a recent concert in the park. |
Stop by the cities of Orange, Tustin, Irvine, and Yorba Linda for weekly concerts through the summer, and check out www.ocgov.com for information on special concerts throughout the county hosted by OC Parks. Concerts are conveniently located in parks and are free to attend. Many residents bring beach towels or chairs, and some even bring food to have a picnic. The whole family is invited to attend. Additionally, the genre of music changes each week, so there is always something for everyone to enjoy!
Supervisor Todd Spitzer will have a booth at many of these concerts to welcome and speak with members of the community about how we can better serve the community. Feel free to visit the Third District booth to say hello, to offer feedback, and to receive information about County services.
Some upcoming concerts include a classic rock show on August 9th in Hart Park (Orange), a Journey Tribute on August 9th at Peppertree Park (Tustin), and a classic Soul and Motown concert on August 13th in the Mike Ward Community Park (Irvine). |

Supervisor Spitzer Reminds You to Swim Safely |
|
|
|
As Public Safety and Outreach Chair with the OC Drowning Prevention Taskforce, Supervisor Todd Spitzer is dedicated to raising awareness of water safety.
The hot weather means families and guests are swimming at the beach and jumping into pools across Orange County, but before putting on that swimsuit, it is important to take safety precautions. Always watch your children around water, designate a water-watcher at group events and think twice – bring a buddy and never swim alone.
