Spitzer Thanks Members of the Military at Memorial Day Events

Supervisor Spitzer joins Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and members of the Laguna Niguel City Council.
“As a public servant, I am honored to spend today remembering our brave Americans heroes who died in active military service. I ask you to join me today in remembering their sacrifice with heartfelt gratitude,” Supervisor Todd Spitzer said during a morning ceremony on Memorial Day.

“It is our solemn duty to remember with gratitude the men and women who laid down their lives to protect our freedom,” Spitzer said, “We can never repay the ultimate sacrifice made by so many in our five branches of service.”

Supervisor Spitzer celebrated Memorial Day, a holiday to honor and remember those who died fighting for our freedom as Americans, by attending several County-wide events and Third District events.

OC Drowning Prevention Task Force Kick Off

Supervisor Spitzer speaks during the Drowning Prevention Task Force Summer Kick Off at Lake Mission Viejo.

Supervisor Todd Spitzer joined Julie Lopiccolo of the Jasper Ray Foundation for Drowning Prevention and Child Safety and John Johnson, Chairman of Stop Drowning Now at the summer kick off.
As the Public Safety Outreach Chair, Supervisor Spitzer joined the OC Drowning Prevention Task Force to kick off the summer season in Orange County.

Since 2015, the Task Force has partnered with 12 cities, the Orange County Fire Authority, and OC Health Care Agency to raise awareness on the issue of drowning and to help prevent such tragedies.

Young children and older adults are at the greatest danger of drowning, but anyone at any age is at risk of drowning when swimming alone. Parents can do their part to protect kids by learning CPR, placing barriers such as a fence around pools, and using Water Watcher Tags to designate someone to watch the water.

“From neighborhood pools to trips to the beach, we love the water here in Orange County,” Supervisor Spitzer said, “Yet we have more drownings than almost any other place in the nation. Drownings are 100% preventable when the necessary precautions are taken before ever getting into the water.”

Spitzer encouraged families to use Water-Watcher Tags to ensure a responsible adult is always keeping an eye on swimmers. “The biggest mistake, Supervisor Spitzer continued, “Is that people assume someone else—a lifeguard, another family member, a friend—are watching their loved ones in the water. Use a Water-Watcher Tag to designate a responsible adult to watch the water until and unless that tag is in someone else’s hands. The Water-Watcher is always ready to jump in and save someone’s life.”

Thanks to Mission Viejo Mayor Ed Sachs, Joe Bailey of OCFA, Julie Lopiccolo and the Jasper Ray Foundation for Drowning Prevention and Child Safety, and Dr. Jason Cook for their continued support of the Task Force.

OC Family Justice Center Foundation

Supervisor Todd Spitzer joined Anaheim Chief Randy Bruegman and Tom and Cynthia Coad at the breakfast.

The Orange County Family Justice Center Foundation held its 1st Annual Celebration of Strength Breakfast on May 22 honoring two special people: retired Lt. James Kazakos who received the Lt. Todd Kridle Excellence Award, and Leticia Sanchez who was honored with the OCFJC Foundation Hero for Justice Award.

As a former police officer and a prosecutor, Supervisor Spitzer witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of domestic violence and child abuse. The Orange County Family Justice Center is a safe, confidential and friendly place where assistance is provided to survivors of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault and elder abuse. Thanks to the important work being done at the Orange County Family Justice Center victims of abuse become survivors.

John Wayne Airport Launches JWA Live Music Program

John Wayne Airport recently launched the JWAlive music program in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal. Featuring a rotating roster of musicians, ticketed passengers at John Wayne Airport can enjoy live acoustic guitar and piano performances while waiting for a flight.

“As part of our commitment to elevating the superior guest experience at John Wayne Airport we introduced JWAlive, featuring live music in the post-security area of the Terminal,” said Airport Director Barry Rondinella. “Live music in the Terminal creates a peaceful ambience for our guests to unwind and relax before their flight.”

The JWAlive music program is made possible through the support of QSC and Keyboard Concepts. The program utilizes a professional live sound system featuring the QSC TouchMix digital mixer and two K.2 Series powered loudspeakers. This highly portable and flexible system provides performing musicians with a combination of professional-level sound quality and incredible ease-of-use throughout the JWA facility.

“QSC is honored to sponsor the JWAlive program,” said Chris Humphrey, VP Marketing, QSC. “As a proud Orange County Top Workplace recipient for six of the last seven years, it is a rewarding and gratifying feeling to know that our products are being utilized to enhance our local airport environment, helping to create a more enjoyable travel experience for the many passengers who visit here, as well as those who, like QSC, call Orange County their home.”

The Yamaha N3X AvantGrand piano in use at John Wayne Airport is a major step forward in the evolution of the piano. This instrument combines cutting-edge digital technology with the same action as Yamaha's renowned grand pianos in a space-saving instrument. It offers the same touch, tone and most important, artistic connection of the Yamaha’s finest 9-foot concert grand piano without ever needing to be tuned. “Keyboard Concepts is honored to have been asked to help enhance the guest experience at the John Wayne Airport,” said Jeff Falgien, Vice President, Keyboard Concepts, Inc. “The JWAlive music performance program is an incredible idea, and by providing the Yamaha N3X AvantGrand piano for use by the professional musicians and performance groups, we feel as if we’re playing a part in making air travel more enjoyable and less stressful.”
