Spitzer Thanks Peace Officers at Walk for Law Enforcement

Supervisor Spitzer speaks to law enforcement supporters about the significance of demonstrating their support. Spitzer presented a certificate to Valerie Mann, the event’s organizer.

Spitzer joined Tustin Police officers outside Tustin City Hall for the Walk for Law Enforcement event.
Supervisor Todd Spitzer was proud to support law enforcement officers here and across the country at the Walk for Law Enforcement.

Spitzer, who was a reserve police officer for ten years in Los Angeles, spoke before the walk.

“We respect our men and women in uniform. Police work is dangerous. It is always on the front lines of our society, addressing homelessness, mental illness, and stopping criminal activity,” Spitzer said to the crowd. “By you wearing blue today and walking in solidarity, you are demonstrating that this community will never abandon law enforcement.” Spitzer concluded.

The event coordinator Valerie Mann did a great job organizing this event to support a critical societal cause. Supporters at the event wore blue and carried blue line flags and posters for the two mile walk in Tustin. The event came just a few days after the country solemnly remembered the first responders lost, including police officers, during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

OC Animal Care Receives $100K Grant from Best Friends Animal Society

(L to R): OC Animal Care’s new shelter Director Mike Kaviani, Chairman Andrew Do, Supervisor Todd Spitzer, Pacific Region Director for Best Friends Animal Society Jose Ocano, and Taylor Sharp with Best Friends Animal Society.

Spitzer joined volunteers in bottle-feeding some of the hungry kittens before the grant ceremony.
Supervisor Spitzer was delighted to give a speech and bottle-feed kittens at the OC Animal Care (OCAC) shelter in Tustin as Best Friends Animal Society presented OCAC with a $100,000 “Save Them All” kitten grant.

In Southern California and all throughout the United States, kittens under 8 weeks old continue to be the highest risk population among shelter animals because of their unique special care requirements, such as round-the-clock bottle feeding. This grant will help save 675 kittens in the next year by improving OC Animal Care’s neonatal kitten program, creating a marketing campaign to find additional foster homes, and providing resources for necessary supplies, medical care, vaccinations, and more.

OCAC took in an overwhelming 4,752 kittens last year, and is on trend this year to surpass that number. This grant will decrease kitten euthanasia at OCAC by 15% in its first year by expanding foster programs, especially for “bottle baby” kittens, and providing resources for kittens in foster care.

Supervisor Spitzer, Chairman Andrew Do, and representatives from OC Animal Care received the $100,000 check from Best Friends Animal Society Pacific Region Director Jose Ocano at the Tustin shelter on Saturday, September 15. Best Friends Animal Society is the only national animal welfare organization focused exclusively on ending the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters. Since its founding in 1984, Best Friends has helped reduce the number of animals killed in American shelters from 17 million per year to an estimated 4 million.

Great Park Sports Park Baseball/Softball Fields Grand Opening

Supervisor Spitzer with Councilmembers Christina Shea (L) and Melissa Fox (R), and members of Irvine youth boy's baseball.

Emile Haddad, Chairman and CEO of FivePoint; Assemblyman Steven Choi; Supervisor Todd Spitzer; and Lynn Jochim, Co-Chief Operating Officer of Fivepoint on the infield of the new Great Park Sports Park Championship Baseball Stadium.
Fans of America’s favorite sport gathered Sunday to celebrate the grand opening of the Great Park Sports Parks Baseball and Softball Fields. The project is in addition to the Sports Park tennis courts, basketball courts, and soccer fields, which are already open. The new fields bring the Sports Park to a massive 194-acres, one of the largest multi-sport complexes in the nation.

Supervisor Spitzer joined the Irvine City Council, CEO Emile Haddad and representatives from FivePoint, and local sports leaders in throwing the opening pitch, to the delight of the residents, youth teams, coaches, and parents in attendance.

The new addition includes two championship stadiums and 10 surrounding ball fields. The ceremony was held at the 1,250-seat Championship Baseball Stadium. The Championship Softball Stadium will open soon. The opening of the complex delivered on a promise made to the Irvine community many years ago. Local “baseball dads” Guy Lemmon and Dick Owens, the Irvine City Council, and FivePoint were instrumental in bringing the facility to Irvine. Additionally, FivePoint should be commended for completing this project a year ahead of schedule.

Spitzer Supports Organization Fighting Child Hunger

Supervisor Todd Spitzer is proud to support Sir Chef Bruno Serato and the Caterina's Club Gala in their mission to help children.

Spitzer with his former boss Bill Handel of KFI AM 640’s Handel on the Law.
Supervisor Todd Spitzer joined well-known philanthropist and restaurateur Sir Chef Bruno Serato in combatting child hunger at the 13th Annual Caterina’s Club Gala at the Marconi Automotive Museum on Sunday, September 16.

Serato founded the nonprofit Caterina’s Club, named after his mother, to provide access to nutritional food, stable housing, and job training for youth. The Gala raises funds to support Caterina’s Club programs like Welcome Home, which helps relocate families from motels to apartments, Hospitality Academy, which works to break the cycle of homelessness, and Feeding the Children.

The annual event honors exceptional individuals who have made a difference in helping children. This year’s honorees were Jolynn Mahoney and Patrick Mahoney, The Most Reverend Kevin W. Vann, JCD, DD, Bishop of Orange, Bobbie Stovall, and Carolyn Zarate-Ramsey.

Supervisor Spitzer is privileged to support Caterina’s Club and its efforts to help struggling families and to prevent child hunger locally and around the world.
