Let’s go walking!

In another sign that freeways and roadways aren’t the only way to get from point A to B in Orange County, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) has engaged the services of an engineering firm to develop the first countywide Active Transportation Plan to improve planning for walking paths and bikeways. For reference, active transportation is any form of human-powered movement – walking, cycling, skateboarding, etc.

Several cities throughout Orange County have been working with OCTA to increase walkways and bikeways in their cities. Cities such as Brea (The Tracks at Brea), Tustin and Santa Ana have been planning and building connections to various points in their respective cities. The goal is to reduce the need for cars for short trips and get people walking and biking. The program by OCTA is designed to build upon that work and create more continuity and connections between cities.

This effort along with the OC Loop are part of a larger initiative to make Orange County as walkable as it is drivable. This includes making walking and biking paths safe for pedestrians and cars alike. Take the OCTA pedestrian safety quiz and keep walking http://www.octa.net/Walk/Pedestrian-Safety-Quiz/.

Brea Chamber Welcomes Tone Barre
Congratulations to Brea Chamber Director Heidi Gallegos for the membership and opening ceremonies of one of the top training and exercise gyms in north OC with the grand-opening of the new Tune Barre!

Located at 790 N. Brea Blvd, in the shopping complex about 200 ft south of State College, the new facility offers a rainbow of exercise options, quality instructors, spinning equipment, mats and music that make this one of the premier centers for exercise in the tri-city locale.

Brittany Freeman, the owner and lead-instructor, joined with her husband in thanking the Chamber and local electeds who attended the ribbon-cutting fun with the back-story that made Tune Barre so successful.

Britany started her career as a professional dancer and ballet specialist until she broke her ankle and concluded it was time for a Plan B.

That spirit and her passionate commitment to fitness and health management lead to her opening Tune Barre/ Brea where she receives rave reviews from customers and clients who soon become ‘family friends.’

If you want to see Britany’s staff and the gym, along with trainers and instructors who personalize all levels of exercise and athletic experience to develop optimal strength and cardio, go to her website at www.ToneBarre.com

For more information on how you can start the new year with friends and trainers, call Britany at (714) 377-9553 and work your hours around their schedule to get the new 2017 body you always wanted.

Supervisor Honors the Council Service of Jan Flory
Supervisor Nelson was honored to recognize the service and sacrifices of Fullerton City Council Mayor Pro-Tem Jan Flory at end-of-the-year ceremonies at the Fullerton City Hall this December.

The ceremonies, delivered by out-going Mayor Jennifer Fitzgerald, included a commendation from the City for all the work and community contribution Ms. Flory delivered over her lifetime of service to the city.

A resident since 1970, she and her husband, Bill, raised two twin sons in Mike and Rob and now, at the age of 35, the boys carry on the legal legacy of their mom by becoming attorneys.

In an amazing tribute to CSUF, Mayor Fitzgerald told the audience that all the Flory family were graduates of Cal State and proud to be Titan Alumnae.

Jan is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Fullerton Heritage, Fullerton Museum Center, FIES, Friends of the Arboretum and the Fullerton Library Foundation. She is also an active member and supporter of the Fullerton Downtown Business Association and the Fullerton Business Council.

Policy Advisor Steve Spernak presented a Lifetime Achievement Award from Supervisor Nelson to Ms. Flory and closed the evening by giving her a color photo of her and Supervisor Nelson with Council Member Greg Sebourn leading the Veterans Day march up Harbor Blvd as a keepsake of her decades of service and leadership in Fullerton.
