County Updates
OC Animal Care Seeks Public Help for Severely Injured Pug
OC Animal Care is asking the community for donations to aid an injured dog in its care. Orange County Animal Control officers recovered an approximately 18-month-old female Pug in the city of Fullerton. The dog was abandoned in a box with devastating trauma leaving her with half of both hind legs. An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this case is asked to contact OC Animal Care at (714) 796-6460.

OC Animal Care is committed to providing this precious Pug with every opportunity to live a long and happy life. OC Animal Care staff have named her "Mila", short for milagro, which means "miracle" in Spanish. She has a long road to recovery, but with the generosity of our community we have the oppo1tunity to ensure Mila heals from her injuries both physically and emotionally and is given the chance to find the loving home she deserves.

Please DONATE today to our Medical Pets fund through Noble Friends
Foundation for OC Animal Care at: https://secure.acceptiva.com/?cst=7489c0. One hundred percent of donations will go directly to Mila's care and any additional funds will be used for animals in need of medical rehabilitation in the future.

OC Animal Care thanks you for supporting our life saving efforts and we will be sending out updates on Mila's progress and all along her journey to recovery.

Orange County Animal Care Receives $100K "Kitten Grant" from Best Friends Animal Society
To help save more kittens at Orange County Animal Care, Best Friends Animal Society presented the organization with a $100,000 "Save Them All" kitten grant.

The grant will decrease kitten euthanasia by 15% in its first year by expanding foster programs, especially for "bottle baby" kittens under 4 weeks old, and providing resources for supplies, medical care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, and microchips for kittens in the foster program. Through collaboration with the non-profit organization OC Shelter Partners and founder Liz Hueg, community events such as a "kitten shower" were held to teach interested volunteers about the care and feeding of bottle feeders. OC Shelter Partners is one of the most active organizations in the community that has begun the process to increase kitten lives saved in the community.

Re-designing Government from the Ground Up
Anyone who has visited the Civic Center Complex in Santa Ana over the past few months would have seen the foundations of a new building being erected. The new six-story building (referred to as Building 16) - designed to maximize space, house more employees in a smaller footprint, and, improve customer service - is among the first steps the county has taken in modernizing the delivery of government services.

The first floor is intended to simplify the “public counter experience” with a new one-stop help desk and self-help kiosks, providing access to 13 key County Departments in a single location. The new location is also designed to service as a community meeting space with an on-site 7,200-square-foot conference and event center available for public use accommodating up to 240 people.

The project is being designed, built and delivered through a Public-Private Partnership (P3) financing and lease structure by the team of Griffin Structures, LPA and Swinerton Builders. The project replaces the old Building 16 that was completed in 1955 – the first structure completed in the original Santa Ana Civic Center Plan. Approximate construction and related costs for the new building are estimated to be $152 million. Completion of the building is expected by early 2020.

George Cardenas and Jim Francis from the Fourth District staff joined the tour with County Employees to see the new building, see photos below.

Firefighter Scott Townley Honors 9-11 Heroes
It takes Firefighter Scott Townley 5 days to unload, display and secure 3,000 flags and crosses honoring the fallen uniformed heroes and almost 3,000 civilian victims of the 9-11 terror attack but the time is and effort is worth every minute.

On the morning of 9-11-2018, Townley has the memorial in place and over a cup of coffee as the sun comes up on Woods Avenue, the first Americans arrive to pray, reflect and cry at the photos and impact of the largest 9-11 memorial in OC.

At noon this day, Townley was presented with a special commendation of appreciation from Supervisor Nelson on behalf of the people of Orange County.

The hardware was a hand-made frame with 2 newspaper headlines that showcased the raid by US Navy Seal Team 6 into Pakistan where the mastermind of the World Trade Towers attack met his fate.

The commendation also contained a trident, worn by the Seals, their Seal Team Six patch and a shoulder patch with the text “Naval Special Warfare Unit... Seal Team”. The frame also included an FBI Wanted Poster for Osama Bin Laden that was signed by Seal Team 6 entry team leader Rob O’Neil, the assault team point-man who ended the life of the most wanted man on the planet.

During the presentation of the commendation by Policy Advisor Steve Spernak, OC Fire Authority Brian Fennessy arrived to view the memorial and personally thank Townley for the incredible memorial display. Fennessy explained that he had been to the County of Orange tributes this morning and wanted to make a special effort to see the solace and tears brought by Townley’s work. Before Chief Fennessy departed, he took 2 minutes to just stare at the crosses and names of 343 New York Firemen and Fire Chaplain Father Mychal Judge who died giving Last Rites to dying victims on the steps of the towers.

When he was done, Chief Fennessy composed himself and returned to duty serving the citizens of Orange County and the United States of America.

May God bless the Police, Fire and American citizens who lost their lives on 9-11 a blessings always on men dedicated to our safety in Fireman Scott Townley and OCFA Chief Brian Fennessy.

Policy Advisor Steve Spernak delivered a commendation of appreciation from Supervisor Nelson to thank Scott Townley for the 9-11 memorial.

OCFA Fire Chief Brian Fennessy stopped to thank Townley for the tribute to fallen FDNY heroes.
