June Voters Decide 9 of 10 OC Seats;
Fifth Supe Run-off Looms

In yesterday’s June Primary, I was resoundingly re-elected to my second term as Orange County Fourth District Supervisor. Voters in the Second District elected Treasurer John Moorlach over Stanton City Councilman Dave Shawver. In South OC’s Fifth District, Former Assemblywoman Pat Bates and Laguna Niguel Mayor Cassie DeYoung will face each other in a November run-off to determine who will succeed termed-out Tom Wilson. My first term ends at the end of this year, with the second-term swearing-in set for January 6th, 2007.

Sheriff Carona eked out a bare majority to avoid a run-off against three challengers, while Chriss Street was elected Treasurer to succeed Moorlach. County Assessor Webster Guillory was re-elected with 59% over two challengers.

Contested race results:

4th District Supervisor
Chris Norby 35,421 72.2%

Measure A Affirms Respect for
Property Rights of All

Orange County Measure A passed overwhelmingly by a 3-1 margin countywide. The measure will limit all eminent domain takings by county government to only public uses—not for private development. This was the first popularly-approved measure by any U.S. county since the Supreme Court’s controversial Kelo decision lifted all federal limits on eminent domain takings.

Though Measure A does not bind city councils, it does send a powerful moral message to all elected officials that their public opposes eminent domain for private gain. It helped make eminent domain abuse a key issue in hard-fought June primary races. It gives momentum to a statewide November eminent domain ballot measure and a charter amendment proposal in Anaheim, where Mayor Pringle has taken a strong stand for a “freedom-friendly” city that honors the property rights of all.

Summer Norby Nuptials Planned
Marsha Miller and I will be getting married sometime late this summer. A small private family-oriented ceremony is anticipated. A Norwalk native, Marsha graduated from Gahr H.S., earned her B.A. in Political Science from Cal State Fullerton and worked for the City of Fountain Valley. A current Foothill Ranch resident, Marsha and I will be sharing our home in Fullerton. Loyal, friendly, beaming and radiant, Marsha has been my constant companion for the past two years, and my support during numerous personal and political challenges and opportunities.
