Anonymous Gun Buyback Program
Supervisor Doug Chaffee, Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors in partnership with the District Attorney, Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Orange, and Placentia Police Departments will be hosting an Anonymous Gun Buyback program on October 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 166 East La Jolla Street, Placentia, CA 92870. Participants can anonymously turn in unwanted guns at the drive-up event without showing I.D. and with “no questions asked”. Participants will need to: - Transport their firearms unloaded in a bag, box or case, and place them in the trunk of their vehicle.
- Remain in their vehicle at all times and not touch any weapons.
- No walk ups will be allowed.
A police officer will remove the gun from the participant’s vehicle. If the trunk or rear hatch cannot be opened remotely by the driver, the driver will hand the officer the key and remain in their vehicle. Participants will receive Amazon or gas gift cards for their firearms at the rate of $200 for each operable handgun, ghost gun, and rifle and $400 for each operable assault weapon brought back with a limit of 3 firearms per person. “Our goal is to make Orange County safer, especially in light of rising gun violence,” said Supervisor Chaffee. “With this voluntary Gun Buyback initiative, we are reducing the number of unwanted guns in the community, which can prevent them from being stolen, used to harm someone or themselves.” The Gun Buyback is funded by Supervisor Doug Chaffee’s Fourth District Discretionary Funding Grants. Partnering police departments will staff the event, collect, secure and dispose of all firearms brought to the event. For more information about the event, please contact Placentia Police Department’s Lieutenant C. Anderson by phone at (714) 993-8156 or by email at canderson@placentia.org. 125th Anniversary of Irvine Regional Park
I was honored to join Vice Chairman Don Wagner, Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen, members of the Irvine family, Irvine Company President Donald Bren, and other guests at the Irvine Regional Park’s 125th Anniversary Celebration. In 1897, Irvine Regional Park became California’s first Regional Park when James Irvine II gifted 160 acres to the County of Orange, California. As a part of the Orange County Parks system, Irvine Regional Park boasts many amenities such as an amphitheater; hiking, biking, and equestrian trails; picnic tables, pony rides, and more. We thank the Irvine family for their donation of the Irvine Regional Park to Orange County and all of our OC Parks staff for coordinating a fantastic anniversary event. National Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month and is an opportunity to raise awareness of the emotional impacts and negative effects bullying has on students. Bullying comes in many forms, it includes verbal, physical, relational and cyberbullying and provides an opportunity to communicate that bullying is not tolerated in our community. The Orange County Health Care Agency's Mental Health and Recovery Services slogan "Stop Bullying OC" reminds students that they are not alone and that they have the power to stand up and speak and students who are experiencing bullying are encouraged to talk to a trusted adult and seek guidance and support. By providing a safe and healthy learning environment is essential and observing National Bullying Prevention Month and supports the need for the development and implementation of programs to address all forms of bullying and ensures a culture is created that fosters student well-being for all.

Cal State Fullerton; Somos Titans Event!
I was thrilled to attend California State University, Fullerton's Celebracíon de Cal State Fullerton: ¡Somos Titans! (We are Titans) event! The celebration highlights CSUF’s commitment to supporting Latinx students and generates vital funding to continue California State University’s life-changing Latinx Student Scholarships and Support Programs. At the event’s reception at the CSUF Alumni House, I spoke with the Honorable Gaddie Vasquez, former Orange County Supervisor and the 8th United States Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture, in Rome, Italy. Finally, we enjoyed a Poncho Sanchez concert in Meng Hall.
