Meet the 4th Annual Kindness Awards Honorees 💙

Our 4th Annual Fourth District Kindness Award Ceremony at Fullerton College was hosted on Sunday, November 13, which celebrated internationally as World Kindness Day. We were so glad that Dr. Jose Moreno, served as our emcee for the evening.

Following the Honorable Tom Tait’s initiative to encourage acts of kindness in the City of Anaheim, the Kindness Awards recognizes residents in the Fourth District who exemplify exceptional kindness or community service.

The honorees for the 4th Annual Fourth District Kindness Awards were:
  • City of Anaheim: Dr. Robert Ornelas
  • City of Brea: Danny Mendoza
  • City of Buena Park: Mary Shandrow
  • City of Fullerton: Verne Wagner
  • City of La Habra: Nohemi Valenzuela
  • City of Placentia: Sandy Castillo
  • City of Stanton: Maria Eline Sanchez

We also awarded the González Reynoso family, owners of Northgate González Markets, with the Honorary Kindness Award.

It is especially important for us to acknowledge and appreciate kindness wherever we can find it. Our Kindness Award honorees have risen to the challenge and have gone beyond that to ensure the needs of our community are met.

Thank you to our distinguished panel of judges, including the Honorable Tom Tait, the Honorable Bill Steiner, Joe Pak, Charles Barfield, and Lorena Moreno for selecting our honorees.

We also send special thank yous to Fullerton College for allowing us to host the event on their campus, the Santiago Lopez Trio for providing the entertainment, and Donna Edman for her photography services.

To learn more about our honorees, please view their Kindness Award videos.

Operation Greenlight for Veterans
This year, Orange County is joining counties across the nation in launching Operation Green Light for Veterans, an initiative designed to shine a light on the service of our veterans and their families.

During the Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting, my colleagues and I presented resolutions to recognize Operation Green Light for Veterans to members of our Orange County veteran community, including:
  • Nick Berardino - President of the Veterans Alliance of Orange County
  • Bobby McDonald - President and Executive Director of the Black Chamber of Commerce
  • Michael J. Beaver - Commander of American Legion Placentia Post 277, US Navy Veteran
  • Wesley “Chick” Adams - US Army Veteran, Veteran of the Year and member of the Disabled American Veterans.

In observance of Operation Green Light for Veterans, the County also illuminated the CAN building in the Santa Ana Civic Center green from Nov. 7th - 13th. By shining a green light, we let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

California State Association of Counties
This week, I’ve been honored to join my Board colleagues and Supervisors from across the State at the California State Association of Counties (CSAC)’s 128th Annual Meeting here in Orange County.

We are so grateful to be the host County for this year’s annual meeting where County Supervisors, County officials, and consultants come together to discuss challenges facing many California counties and to hear valuable information from relevant experts.

The Future of Healthcare: Innovations in Data to Achieve Health Equity Conference
It was a honor to give the welcoming remarks to over 250 healthcare professionals, researchers, students, and community leaders at the “The Future of Healthcare: Innovations in Data to Achieve Health Equity Conference,” which was hosted at the UCI Beall Applied Innovation Center.

Our County-led initiatives such as Equity in OC and the Orange County Equity Map show how investments in data have been used to address disparities and advance health equity.

The very successful Equity in OC initiative has invested $22 million into community-based solutions to address systemic issues such as housing, food insecurity and barriers to health.

Additionally, the Orange County Equity Map we launched in July of 2021 has been used to help hundreds of nonprofit organizations reach more people, identify the greatest needs in various neighborhoods, and collect data to identify health disparities in underserved communities.

We thank AdvanceOC, the OC Health Care Agency and UCI Institute for Clinical and Translational Science for organizing this event and bringing us together to further the Equity Movement in Orange County.

In the Fourth District Community
Veterans Day Celebrations 🎖
Team Chaffee and I had a wonderful time celebrating Veterans Day in the Fourth District.

I attended Fullerton's Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony hosted by the Fullerton American Legion Post 142, the Fullerton Emblem Club #469, and the City of Fullerton.

We were thrilled to be able to honor our veterans with a parade that led to a ceremony at Hillcrest Park, which included remarks from guest speaker Brigadier General David G. Smith, Special Assistant to the Commanding General, California State Guard (CSG), California Military
Department.

My Field Representative, Jesus Gaona-Perez, also attended the City of Buena Park's Veterans Honor Walk at the Veterans Memorial-Ehlers Event Center to recognize Buena Park Veterans for their dedication, service, and sacrifice for our country.

Orange County is proud to be the home of brave and courageous Veterans like those that were recognized during these events.

Thank you to all Veterans for your service!

Hornet Drone Piloting Apprenticeship Program

Ambassador Paulette was excited to join Fullerton College at the launch event for their Hornet Drone Piloting Apprenticeship Program!

As the first federally-registered apprenticeship program in the State and first drone piloting apprenticeship program in the U.S., the Program will provide students with courses in drone piloting and 600 hours of on-the-job training with a drone service provider. The program also pays for students' drone pilot certification.

Congratulations to Fullerton College and the Fullerton Drone Lab on this momentous occasion! We commend them for creating innovative workforce programs, so our students can learn valuable trades and increase their employment opportunities.

Renovated Auditorium at Fullerton High School

On November 3, 2022, I joined other elected officials and attended Fullerton High School's ribbon cutting ceremony for their renovated Fullerton Auditorium. It was fun to return to the High School I graduated from. The upgrades looks amazing, and we can't wait to see productions in the new auditorium.
