Fourth District Kids' Fishing Derby 🐟
Last Saturday was a day of pure joy at Ralph B. Clark Park during our Fourth District Kids' Fishing Derby! Our young anglers showed off their skills and had a blast casting their lines into the serene lake. Highlights of the day included: - Exciting fishing competitions
- Awesome prizes for our little champions
- Tons of adorable photos
- Family fun and bonding
We send a big shout out to OC Parks and their staff for organizing the derby with my office, our County departments and the Cities of Buena Park and Fullerton who tabled the event, Angler Chronicles and Bite on Fishing for assisting families and kids who fished, and the Orange County Employees Association (OCEA) for serving up free hot dogs to the public! Tour of the Cal State Fullerton Nursing Simulation Center
Team Chaffee had an incredible experience touring the Cal State Fullerton School of Nursing Simulation Center! All Cal State Fullerton nursing students have opportunities to develop their clinical skills in the Nursing Simulation Center before participating in clinical rotations. Each clinical room has working hospital equipment such as hospital beds, monitors and headwalls with simulated oxygen and suction to create an environment of realism for the students to learn in. Students have the ability to talk to the dummy patients and have the patient respond. They can take vital signs and do head-to-toe assessments on the dummy patients. The dummy patients can also breathe, sweat and cry. The students can hear heart and lung sounds as well as provide intravenous therapy on these simulators. Thank you to the Cal State Fullerton Nursing Program faculty and staff for educating us on your top tier Nursing Program!

We're still collecting information from job seekers and employers, but we've confirmed that 21 employers hired on the spot or scheduled interviews with candidates.

Kindness Awards Nominations
The Orange County Fourth District Kindness Awards nomination portal will close on October 1, so nominate an exceptionally kind person for the awards! Kindness is often defined as doing something to help another person without the expectation of receiving anything in return. If you know anyone that works, lives, serves, and/or volunteers in the cities of Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Placentia, Stanton, portions of Anaheim, and unincorporated communities in the Fourth District who have displayed exceptional kindness or community service, please nominate them. The Fourth District Kindness Awards will honor individuals who have displayed exceptional kindness or community service in the Fourth Supervisorial District Cities on November 13, 2023, which is observed internationally as World Kindness Day. There will be one award recipient from each City. Please note elected officials and organizations will not be eligible to be nominated for the Fourth District Kindness Award. Nominations will be accepted until Sunday, October 1, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. To nominate an individual for the Kindness Awards, please submit an application at https://d4.ocgov.com/fourth-district-kindness-awards. Medi-Cal and CalFresh Annual Renewals
As a member of the CalOptima Health Board of Directors, I spoke with CalOptima Health CEO Michael Hunn and Orange County Social Services Agency Director An Tran at the Fullerton City Council meeting about the Medi-Cal renewal process. CalOptima Health is Orange County’s public health insurance plan that provides Medi-Cal coverage for the most vulnerable individuals in our community. Nearly 36% of all residents in the Fourth District or 288,000 members receive healthcare coverage through CalOptima Health. Many of these individuals are at risk of losing their health coverage if they do not go through the renewal process when they are scheduled to. The State is renewing all Medi-Cal beneficiaries over a 14-month period from April 1, 2023, through May 31, 2024. The impacts of the termination of the waiver poses a serious risk to the continued health care coverage for as many as 2 to 3 million Medi-Cal beneficiaries across the State, and up to approximately 200,000 Orange County CalOptima Health members. There is a new simple way to apply for, view and renew benefits for health coverage, food and cash assistance: www.BenefitsCal.com. BenefitsCal.com replaces MyBenefitsCalWIN (MyBCW), MyBenefitsCalWIN.org and the MyBenefitsCalWIN Mobile App. The BenefitsCal.com website will work great on your smartphone and make it easier than ever to: - Apply online
- Link your MyBenefitsCalWIN case
- Report changes
- Upload documents
- See if you qualify for benefits
- Sign up for email/text alerts
- And more
Don’t worry – if you currently receive benefits, the switch from MyBCW to BenefitsCal.com does not impact your benefits. What do I need to know? You can now create an account at www.BenefitsCal.com and submit your application for benefits or link your old MyBenefitsCalWIN case to your account. The MyBenefitsCalWIN, the former benefits enrollment portal, is no longer available. To learn more about BenefitsCal, please visit benefitscal.com/help.
