Future Leaders Program Overview
We held our annual Future Leaders Program this month and wrapped up our program this past Saturday. During the five sessions, our future leaders were able to receive tours at the County Administration North Building, Registrar of Voters office, Brea Olinda Alpha Landfill, and the Sheriff-Coroner Division Department. They also received presentations by OC Public Libraries on library resources, OC Workforce Development on career exploration, and OC Health Care Agency on Mental Health Awareness. At our graduation day, our future leaders were able to meet with County Department heads to learn more about the different county organizations and their time at the County. Special thanks to our County departments that allowed our Future Leaders to tour their departments and learn more about their duties. Stay tuned for next year Future Leaders application this upcoming winter/spring. 2024 Future Leaders Group Photo Session 1

Juneteenth Celebration
Team Chaffee attended the Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom event hosted by the City of Buena Park. Juneteenth is a celebration of the freedom of African Americans and recognizes their independence from slavery. Despite President Abraham Lincoln issuing the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, news of the end of slavery did not reach the entirety of the United States, especially in Southern areas. Juneteenth celebrates the day that Union Soldiers finally freed the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, two years after the issue of the Emancipation Proclamation. My Policy Advisor, Junellen Dillard, spoke during the event to acknowledge the historical value of Juneteenth as a national holiday in celebration to the end of slavery. The event provided guests with incredible music, delicious food, guest speakers, and wonderful entertainment in celebration of this national holiday. A special thanks to the City of Buena park for hosting such an amazing event! Photo of performers and community members at the Juneteenth event

Climate Action Plan Public Forum
Last week, we hosted a Climate Action Plan (CAP) Public Forum at the Brea Community Center. The Preliminary CAP Public Forums were hosted all over the County in order to not only educate the public about the County's plans and directions moving forward regarding our climate, but to also obtain public feedback on what the CAP should focus on primarily as main goals for lowering emissions. Some of the topics included in the presentation were reducing greenhouse gas emissions, green industry workforce training, decreased burden to our landfills through reuse and repurpose, and many more. Thank you to everyone who showed up and shared their thoughts. Your presence was greatly appreciated!
