San Onofre Nuclear Station to Test Siren System on Wednesday (10/21/09)

Tomorrow, between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm, the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), will conduct an emergency test. Federal regulations require that this test be conducted each year.

Sirens will be heard in Dana Point, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, State Parks, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, and throughout the unincorporated areas of Orange County within 10 miles of the plant. The long, steady sirens will be activated several times for about three minutes each time.

In some areas, a separate test of the Public Address feature may be conducted. This feature may be used to alert local communities to other emergencies or to provide specific directions.

Remember - This is Only a Test. There is no need to take action. Please do NOT call 911. For additional information on the Community Alert Siren System Test, click here.

Before an emergency strikes, register to receive emergency notifications using AlertOC. Registration is easy and free, and allows you to receive important, city-specific information by phone, email, text message, or TTY/TDD. To learn more about preparing for a disaster, please visit ReadyOC.org.

As always, it is an honor to serve as your County Supervisor. Please do not hesitate to share with me any questions or comments.
