Vegetation Fire - Ortega Highway

A vegetation fire that started this morning at 11:30 a.m. on Ortega Highway near Verdugo Canyon Road has now burned 100 acres and is 10 percent contained. The fire is creating a great deal of smoke in the South Orange County area. No homes are threatened at this time. There are no evacuations and no road closures. The cause is under investigation.

Approximately 100 firefighters are currently on scene fighting the fire and an additional 100 have been requested. Both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters are on scene helping with the suppression efforts. Two firefighters have suffered minor injuries.
