Dear Friends and Neighbors, Thanksgiving is a celebration that symbolizes gratitude, compassion, and appreciation. This is a cherished time to enjoy annual traditions with friends, family, and neighbors. Like many of you, I look forward to spending time with my family and sharing a home-cooked meal. I also recognize that far too many families struggle with food insecurity and I want those families to know that we are here to support you. During this holiday season my office: - Partnered with United Across Borders to provide food to our healthcare providers in honor of Home Care Provider Appreciation Month.
- Sponsored underserved families, selected through the school district, to enjoy a full thanksgiving meal.
- Partnered with Councilmember Phan and Hernandez of Santa Ana to distribute 100 turkey vouchers to the Santa Anita community.
- Partnered with the organization We Give Thanks to provide over 5,000 home-cooked meals for our community at the Honda Center tomorrow.
I am thankful for my family, health and opportunity to serve the community. I wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Thanksgiving holiday. Sincerely,
Vicente Sarmiento Supervisor, Second District Orange County Board of Supervisors

Honored to Serve: Supervisor Sarmiento Appointed to California Volunteers Commission by Governor Newsom
I am thrilled to share that Governor Gavin Newsom has honored me with an appointment to the California Volunteers Commission. My goal will include supporting the Governor’s vision, in supporting our collective efforts to building a stronger and more vibrant community. A portion of the duties of the California Volunteers Commission include: - Function as “Ambassadors of Service” in their local communities to promote service opportunities and to encourage service by all Californians
- Approve grant-making policies, procedures, and funding proposals submitted to the Corporation for National and Community Service
- Recruiting and mobilizing citizens for volunteer service by identifying service opportunities throughout the state and by recognizing citizens for the contributions they make as volunteers and participants in public service programs
From my time serving the City of Santa Ana as a Councilmember and Mayor, to my current role as your Second District Supervisor, I've always been driven by a passion for community well-being. I extend my deepest gratitude for your ongoing support; together, we can continue to achieve more for our community.

Supervisor Sarmiento Representing Orange County
(Supervisor Sarmiento representing Orange County at the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) conference) Last week, I participated in the Annual California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Conference in Oakland. The conference brings together all 58 California counties and allows County Supervisors from across the state to discuss issues such as housing, homelessness, mental health, and upcoming state legislation. Participating in the CSAC conference allowed me the opportunity to take on a new role and serve on the Latino Caucus of California Counties. The Latino Caucus of California Counties is a membership organization where members meet and collaborate to solve issues and concerns facing our Latino community. By joining this caucus, Orange County will have a voice and seat at the table with our other counties.

Tustin Hangar Update
In the early mornings of Tuesday, November 21st, crews began the demolishment of the historic Tustin Hangar after the fire that left it destroyed on November 7th. Recent wind and weather events have put the demolishment project on hold, but crews continued efforts on the morning of the 22nd. Efforts to salvage what was left of the Hangar persisted until Saturday afternoon. The Incident Management Team stabilized the Hangar's doors, put out the remaining hot spots, and attempted to leave the concrete pillars in place. The OC Healthcare Agency (HCA) advises residents to reduce exposure to harmful asbestos in the air, especially due to high winds. View the full recommendations here. For more up-to-date information, contact the Incident Hotline at (714) 426-2444 or read the daily incident updates here.

Supervisor Sarmiento Supports YMCA Student Delegates
(Santa Ana delegates together at Camp Roberts) I had the great pleasure of sponsoring seven hard working high school students to participate in the YMCA Youth and Government Model Legislature at their first statewide retreat in Camp Roberts. Over a thousand Youth and Government delegates came together to collaborate and learn more on their civic and legislative duties. This marked the first in-person YMCA gathering since 2019! As a part of this program, delegates had the opportunity to participate in personal development workshops and leadership sessions, connecting with others on how to better serve their communities. I am very proud of these delegates for nurturing their interests, becoming young leaders in their communities, and I look forward to seeing their continued growth in their advocacy.
