Supervisor Todd Spitzer is scheduled to present an award to the Orange County Veterans Service Office to honor their recent award from the California State Association of Counties.
The OC Community Services’ Vets Helping Vets Work Study Program earned a Challenge Award for providing training and work experience for veterans. The program assists full or part-time veteran students or eligible dependents enrolled in a college degree or vocational trade school to gain practical experience working at the Orange County Veterans Service Office while receiving GI Bill benefits. The program has been a win-win for veterans and the County—the program has augmented existing resources while helping post-9/11 veterans with employment opportunities.
The 2015 Orange County Veterans Day Community Celebration program will begin at 2:00 pm and the event is open to the community. Click here for more information. |

American Red Cross Presents Court with Excellence in Disaster Preparedness Award |

(Portions courtesy of Superior Court of California County of Orange)
The American Red Cross presented the Orange County Superior Court with an award for “Excellence in Disaster Preparedness” for the Court’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.
The American Red Cross established the award to recognize companies, organizations, and community groups for their superior emergency preparedness plans and to share model plans with other groups.
The Court’s Emergency Response and Security Services (ERSS) unit conducted an emergency preparedness analysis that revealed the need for a court-specific emergency plan and identified that employees wanted hands-on emergency training to prepare for disasters. As a result, the ERSS unit created and implemented an EOP and a hands-on CERT training academy.
Orange County Superior Court is the only court in the nation to have a recognized CERT program and one of the few in the nation with an EOP. |
