Rallying Community Support on JWA-FAA Legal Objections |

Supervisor Todd Spitzer is in the community throughout Orange County supporting residents in opposition to the Federal Aviation Administration’s NextGen Project altering flight patterns in and out of John Wayne Airport. At issue is the FAA’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of “No Significant Impact” in noise and exhaust emissions affecting communities. Along with several hundred concerned citizens, Supervisor Spitzer attended the FAA public briefing on Wednesday, February 1st at the Oasis Senior Center in Corona del Mar where he offered the county perspective on the actuality of new flight patterns, the negative effects residents are experiencing and the status of team-effort litigation by the County and Cities of Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. |

The 2017 Little Saigon Tet Parade drew thousands of people together to celebrate the Vietnamese New Year in the streets of Westminster on Saturday, February 5th. Tet is the cultural celebration of the lunar New Year. Little Saigon in Westminster is home to the largest Vietnamese Community outside of Vietnam, among more than 300,000 Vietnamese immigrants living in Southern California.
The colorful annual event featured community floats and marching bands, color guards, youth groups, martial arts demonstration, traditional dance and costumes from diverse groups, scouting organizations and much more. Supervisor Todd Spitzer joined other elected County officials in handing out the traditional Li Xi gifts of ‘lucky money’ to children along the parade route. |

Supervisor Spitzer enjoyed the opportunity to appear with Leslie Leyton in a taped segment of Local Edition on Charter Cable. The in depth interview on the long-form news and public affairs program centered on the John Wayne Airport issue with the Federal Aviation Administration that has many county residents upset over altered arrival and departure flight patterns. Supervisor Spitzer’s segment will air several times later this month on Charter Cable channel 166 and 188 in HD in Orange County and on Charter systems throughout the state of California. |

OC Health Care Agency Tracks Mycobacterium Outbreak |

Here are some resources from the OCHA related to the Mycobacterium outbreak at the Children’s Dental Group of Anaheim. Parents/guardians of children who received a pulpotomy, a dental procedure during which the infected pulp tissue of a tooth is treated/removed, at this dental clinic should refer to the frequently asked questions through the link provided below. Our Public Health Services team is working with the Children’s Dental Group to assure that any additional cases are identified quickly.
As of January 31st the total case count remains 67 cases; 22 confirmed, 45 probable; all have been hospitalized at some point. The age range is 2 to 11 years for all cases. The pulpotomy date range is Feb./4-8/2016 for all cases.

New Multi-Lingual Superior Court Call Center Opens to Assist with Court Cases |

The Superior Court of Orange County has opened a new call center to assist the public with services and information regarding criminal and traffic cases. Assistance is available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese by calling 657-622-8459. An automated phone system is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and customer service representatives are available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except Court holidays. Since the center’s “soft launch” on January 11, representatives have assisted an average of 145 customers per day. |

The 12th Annual Tustin Mayor’s Dinner was another great success with proceeds going to the Tustin Community Foundation. Congratulations to this year’s guest of honor, the current Mayor Dr. Allan Bernstein. The new mayor and respected podiatrist served on several environmental boards in the county while a member of the Tustin City Council. Supervisor Spitzer issued a proclamation honoring Dr. Bernstein. Field Deputy Al Tello represented the Third District at the event which featured entertainment by a youth orchestra and tribute band The Silver Beatles. |

Irvine Seeking Community Advisory Members for Children, Youth and Families Committee |

The City of Irvine is accepting applications to fill two community member-at-large vacancies on the Irvine Children, Youth and Families Advisory Committee (ICYFAC). Comprised of 15 members, the ICYFAC is an advisory body to the Community Services Commission, and provides ongoing review and evaluation of the Irvine Strategic Plan for Children, Youth and Families.
The Strategic Plan for Children, Youth and Families focus areas include:
- Support to Families in Need
- Child Care and School Readiness
- Youth Alcohol, Substance Use and Other Risky Behavior Reduction
- Youth Volunteerism
- Health, Fitness and Well-being
Applicants must live or work in Irvine and be willing to commit to a voluntary two-year term of active participation. Committee meetings are held quarterly on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Irvine Civic Center.
The ICYFAC application period begins Monday, Feb. 6, 2017. Applications are available at Irvine Civic Center, 1 Civic Center Plaza, 2nd Floor, Community Services Department, or online. Completed applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 to:

Great Park Ice Facility Groundbreaking |

The City of Irvine will co-host the groundbreaking of a Community Ice Facility at the Orange County Great Park on Thursday, February 16th at 10 am. When open in 2018, the facility will be the largest in California and one of the largest in the country. Co-host H&S Ventures, an affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, will have visual presentations and more information about the facility at the groundbreaking.
The 270,000-square-foot ice facility, to be built, operated and maintained by the affiliate, will have three National Hockey League-standard ice rinks and one Olympic size, to include a 2,500-seat arena.
Located near the Great Park’s Palm Court and adjacent to the Festival Site parking area, the Community Ice Facility will be reserved most of the time for public use. A variety of ice sports and recreation will include youth and adult hockey programs, regional and national tournaments, figure skating, and open public skating. The Anaheim Ducks are expected to practice occasionally at the 13.5-acre site.
