Weed Abatement Notice from OC Public works |

You may have noticed the hills and vacant lots around Orange County are starting to turn a nice shade of green. While these annual grasses and weeds are pretty to look at for now, later they will dry out and pose a significant fire hazard to the surrounding homes. Under the California Health & Safety Code, the County of Orange is required to carry out a weed abatement program. The program can help prevent damage to homes in the event of a fire while also helping to reduce the spread of noxious weeds.
On February 14, 2017, OC Public Works mailed out the annual Notice to Destroy Weeds. This notice is mailed out to property owners in the unincorporated area of the County as a reminder to remove annual weeds, grasses and dead/dying vegetation from their properties by April 11, 2017. Property owners are often able to request deadline extensions, depending upon where the property is located.
Many residents within the Third District (such as Cowan Heights, Lemon Heights, Silverado Canyon, Modjeska Canyon and Trabuco Canyon) are very aware of the weed abatement program and work very hard to keep their properties maintained. Property owners who receive the Notice to Destroy Weeds are encouraged to contact the County Hazard Reduction/Weed Abatement Program for information at (714) 955-0111. For additional information on the program, please visit our website: http://www.ocagcomm.com/abatement/ |
