Star Wars Day Returns to Zoo with Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Stormtroopers attending |

This has got to be one of the coolest events that the County sponsors. Who wouldn’t want to get a picture with a Star Wars character?
On June 16, I helped celebrate the annual Star Wars Day at the Orange County Zoo. Many people came dressed in costumes and everyone had a great time, including the animals. They received treats throughout the day and had special meet-and-greet times with the public.
Mark this on your calendar for next year! |

Supervisor Spitzer Obtains Refunds for Drivers Impacted by the Santiago Fire |

If you drove on the 241 or 261 toll roads and were directed by law enforcement to take another route between Monday night and Tuesday morning during the Santiago brush fire, please call the TCA offices and request a refund.
The fire resulted in unexpected tolls for people who were unable to reach their destination on a normal route.
Supervisor Todd Spitzer, who is on the Board of Directors of the Transportation Corridor Agencies, has secured refunds for the drivers impacted by this fire. Spitzer oversees the Third District, where the Santiago fire burned 155 acres.
Spitzer appreciated the cooperation of all the motorists, which allowed the firefighters to quickly contain the blaze.
“I know how frustrating it is to be detoured on your way home,” Spitzer said. “Thankfully no one was hurt in this fire and buildings were safe. But that doesn’t alleviate the issue that numerous people were either forced to drive on the toll road or told to turn around – incurring a second charge.”
The TCA customer service phone number is 949-727-4800. Refunds will be made after the request is investigated. |

50th Anniversary for Rotarian and Veteran from Tustin-Santa Ana Area |
Field Deputy Al Tello presents Carl Greenwood with a proclamation. |
My office was represented at a very special luncheon: Carl Greenwood was honored last month for completing his 50th year as a member of the Tustin-Santa Ana Rotary Club. My Field Deputy Al Tello presented this proclamation on my behalf.
The Rotary Club does so much good for the community and through the years, Carl must have volunteered thousands of hours. I am proud that he is part of my district.
Carl, a lifelong Tustin resident, became a Rotary Club member in 1968. He served as Secretary, Treasurer, Chair of the Good Idea Awards and President in 1986. For several years he was chair of the annual New Teacher Breakfast which welcomed new teachers to Tustin and oriented them to the school district. In 1971, Carl’s wife Kathy was one of those new teachers. Carl is a Stanford University graduate and a Vietnam War veteran. |

EBT Cardholder Outage Notification |

Statewide EBT Outage Scheduled for Saturday, June 23 through Sunday, June 24
The state of California is transitioning to a new Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Vendor on June 30, 2018. Because of this transition, a statewide 24-hour EBT outage and black-out period is scheduled from Saturday, June 23, 2018 beginning at 11 p.m. until Sunday, June 24, 2018 at 11:00 p.m. During this outage, cardholders will not be able to access their EBT food or cash benefits. EBT cardholders are encouraged to plan ahead for their shopping needs.
This scheduled, one-time distribution of the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) outage is required to support the transition of EBT vendor services from Conduent (formerly Xerox) to Fidelity Information Services (FIS).
Notices were mailed to EBT cardholders the first week of June. Staff at all locations are notifying any newly granted cases about the outage and posting informational signs in office lobby areas.
The client website at www.ebt.ca.gov will also be unavailable during this outage.
Cardholders calling the EBT Customer Service Help Line (1-877-328-9677) during this period will be reminded of the outage via a recorded message. Due to the website and call centers being down, cardholders will be unable to check their balances during this outage.
Additionally, all authorized retailers have been notified of the outage. They have been encouraged to inform their own staff and post informational signage in their stores for EBT cardholders as well. |
