Over 3,000 People Celebrate the Moon Festival at Mile Square Park |
|
Chairman Andrew Do and OC Parks hosted the 2018 Moon Festival at Mile Square Park on Sunday, marking an important cultural celebration for the Vietnamese community and the largest full moon of the year. Over 3,000 residents from across Orange County came to the newly constructed Freedom Hall to celebrate the occasion.
The festival featured community-renowned musicians, cultural performances, traditional Lion Dances performed by students from Bolsa Grande High School and more. Chairman Do’s office also distributed traditional paper lanterns and mooncakes to attendees. The Moon Festival is all about giving thanks, for nature's abundance and joyful reunions with loved ones.
Thank you to the dedicated staff and volunteers who made the Festival possible. For more upcoming events at Mile Square Park, visit the OC Parks website here. |

Sacramento Continues Risky Experiments with Public Safety |
|
During this year’s legislative session, state lawmakers once again conducted risky experiments with our criminal justice system. Sacramento’s most damaging creation, Senate Bill 10, ends bail in California. Instead of cash bail, criminal courts will conduct “risk assessments” to determine whether an offender should be held until trial or released back into the community. This experimental bail system jeopardizes the safety of our neighborhoods, making it even easier for criminals to evade justice.
Law-abiding citizens must speak up and make our voices heard. Thankfully, in California we are able to have a direct check on this out of control behavior through the initiative and referendum process. A coalition of those wary of SB10 have already filed the referendum that has been cleared for circulation. If it gets the necessary 366,000 signatures, the new law will be placed on hold until voters have a chance to decide in November 2020. Today, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved by proposal to adopt a resolution in support of the referendum to stop SB 10 until there is a vote of the people.
California is already suffering from Prop. 47, Prop. 57 and AB109. We don’t need more experiments that jeopardize the safety of our neighborhoods.
For more on how SB 10 will jeopardize our criminal justice system check out the op-ed authored by Chairman Do and District Attorney Tony Rackauckas in the OC Register. |

Chairman Do and volunteers lent a helping hand to their Midway City neighbors on Saturday through a community cleanup.
OC Public Works and OC Waste and Recycling hosted an annual community cleanup in Midway City, which offered residents a cost-free way to get rid of large items and other junk that may be difficult to dispose of.
Thank you to the dedicated staff and generous volunteers, including two dozen members of the Bolsa Grande High School Men’s League, for spending your Saturday morning helping Midway City residents make their community a better place to live. |
