A word from the Supervisor’s staff July 4 marked Supervisor Wagner's 100th day on the Board. Since day one, Supervisor Wagner rolled up his sleeves and hit the ground running to serve you and our beautiful Third District: Irvine, Tustin, Orange, Villa Park, Anaheim Hills, the unincorporated canyons, and Yorba Linda. Below are some highlights reflecting a commitment to public service as Supervisor, from his swear-in date to today: Reopening Irvine Lake for shoreline fishing
Shortly after taking office, Supervisor Wagner studied the OC Grand Jury report and decided to take action on our neglected Irvine Lake. Irvine Lake has sat vacant for nearly four years due to political infighting, prompting the Supervisor to lead a series of successful negotiations among the key parties involved. Thank you to The Irvine Company, Serrano Water District, Irvine Ranch Water District, and the County for your tremendous cooperation in bringing this vital resource back to the public. OC Parks is now working diligently to clear the weeds, remove the brush, and begin site preparation for shoreline fishing. Local residents will once again be able to create new memories at this stunning open space with families and friends. You can read more of this story in the OC Register. Way to tackle this deal, Supervisor Wagner! Voted not to expand John Wayne Airport This was not a fly-by-night decision. The Board did everything in its power to address community concerns over flight traffic and noise. The approved project does not expand flights to or from JWA, and Supervisor Wagner rejected the airport staff’s request to add a third private jet facility. With mandatory noise limits and nighttime curfews, John Wayne Airport operates one of the most restrictive access and noise programs in the country. Supervisor Wagner also recommended to further cap aviation hours with a blackout time from 12 a.m. – 5 a.m. on international flights. We are taking off in the right direction with this issue, as the Board and the community landed on a compromise that is best for the entire County. Directed sober living home ordinance Supervisor Wagner's staff got the pulse on a community concern circulating around the District's unincorporated areas. And Team Wagner acted swiftly to fix the problem. After a successful North Tustin Town Hall meeting with the Health Care Agency, Sheriff’s Department, County counsel, and 100+ residents, Supervisor Wagner got the Board to approve his draft County ordinance with stricter guidelines and code enforcement. This item will go before the Planning Commission. Lobbying for a Veterans’ cemetery in Anaheim Hills Supervisor Wagner identified a 283-acre Anaheim Hills site as a workable solution for a Veterans’ cemetery in Orange County. Irvine holds a long history of political infighting over a cemetery location, which has stalled this already overdue project. He is actively lobbying both the Senate and the Assembly to amend a bill that will fund a Veterans’ cemetery in Anaheim Hills. You can read his Op-Ed in the Orange County Register. Ensuring safety first Public safety is a major priority for this office. That's why Team Wagner organized two FREE "hands-only CPR & stop-the-bleed training" courses in Irvine and Tustin (more classes to come). Both events saw high attendance thanks to the hard work of Team Wagner, Care Ambulance Service, and the Boys & Girls Club of Tustin and Irvine. To enhance these courses, Supervisor Wagner partnered with the Drowning Prevention Task Force, holding press conferences to relay vital water safety messages and speaking engagements at parent organizations across the District. Drownings are the leading cause of fatalities for children age one to four. We remind everyone to enjoy pool time this summer and stay safe by practicing the ABCs of water vigilance: - Active supervision
- Barriers around pools
- Classes and CPR training
Sponsored Free Pet Adoptions Movie Pet Magic 2019 was a smash hit! Our office rolled out the red carpet at OC Animal Care and 70+ animals were adopted: 44 cats, 22 dogs, four exotic pets, and three rabbits. Supervisor Wagner provided sponsorship for free spay/neuter services at this community event. Additionally, the City of Orange experienced an emergency situation, where over 140+ dogs were impounded from a home. The Movie Pet Magic event proved to be an incredible chance to support a community in crisis with additional dog adoption opportunities. Thank you to all the Orange County families that opened their hearts and their homes to new furry family members. Saving Taxpayer Money
- Orange County Transportation Agency: Voted against the fiscal year budget that would continue funding the $400 million dollars (and only four miles long) streetcar project in downtown Santa Ana.
- Orange County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO): Voted against the fiscal year budget that would dip into reserves to give government employees a 27 percent pay increase.
- The Toll Roads: Voted against a toll increase throughout Orange County.
Team Wagner is looking forward to the next 100 days of public service. Thank you!
