OC Veterans Cemetery Dedication Ceremony

Supervisor Todd Spitzer spoke about his support of bringing the Veterans Cemetery to Irvine.

Supervisor Todd Spitzer (C) smiles with Emile Haddad (L), CEO of FivePoint Communities, and Bill Cook (R), Chairman of the Orange County Veteran's Memorial Park Foundation, both of whom were instrumental in the Veterans Cemetery project.
October 27 was a historic day for veterans in Orange County as the City of Irvine hosted the Flag Raising Ceremony and Dedication for the site of the future Southern California Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Commendable effort by veterans groups after years of advocacy have succeeded in securing a location at the Great Park.

While the project had been stalled in the decades since the El Toro Marine Base closed in Irvine, the creation of this cemetery means veterans and their family members will be buried at the actual base in which they served our country.

Supervisor Spitzer spoke at the event to thank the many people involved. The Flag Raising Ceremony at the future site of the Southern California Veterans Memorial Park “show Orange County is finally stepping up to provide a permanent resting place for our brave heroes,” he said, addressing a crowd of more than one-hundred Veterans, elected officials, and advocates.

The 125+ acres of land on the former El Toro Marine Base will soon be a place of pride and respect for the 120,000 veterans who call Orange County home, and the many more who have been lost.

City of Orange Treats in the Streets Autumn Festival

Supervisor Spitzer had a blast passing out candy to trick-or-treaters at the festival.

Monsters, princesses, ghosts, and more came out to celebrate the Halloween season and to get some delicious candy at the City of Orange Treats in the Streets Festival. Thousands of trick-or-treaters and their families came to the Orange Plaza in costume on October 26 to collect treats, and one or two tricks.

Treats in the Streets is an annual trick-or-treating event held in the Orange Plaza.
Supervisor Spitzer passed out candy at the fun-filled event. He praised the annual festival that’s held in the plaza connecting Chapman Ave. and Glassell St. as “A great opportunity for members of the Orange community to trick-or-treat in their favorite costume and join in the spirit of fall to celebrate a great holiday.”

Human Trafficking Task Force Receives Grant for “Be the One” Campaign

As co-chair of the OC Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) Steering Committee as part of OC Social Services Agency, Supervisor Todd Spitzer has been a leading voice on human-trafficking prevention and paved the way for the creation of the “Be the One” campaign. On September 1, 2017, the US Department of Homeland Security selected the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to receive a highly competitive grant to enhance and expand the “Be the One” campaign.

The “Be the One” campaign is a human-trafficking prevention initiative intended to raise public awareness on the warning signs of sex trafficking and encourage victims to come forward. The CSEC Steering Committee partnered with OCTA to tailor the “Be the One” campaign to focus specifically on the sex trafficking of children. Together, OCTA and CSEC promoted the campaign’s messages on OC buses across the County. While one of the main goals of the CSEC Steering Committee is to increase public awareness, they are also working collaboratively to enhance services and identify appropriate placement resources for this vulnerable population.

Supervisor Spitzer, who is also an OCTA director, congratulates OCTA for the award and is proud of their continued support of the “Be the One” Campaign.

OC Public Works Traffic Safety Measures in Yorba Linda

OCPW Traffic Engineering/Signal Operations Team were honored by the Yorba Linda Country Club.

The efforts of Orange County Public Works Traffic Engineering/Signal Operations team were recently recognized by Yorba Linda Country Club and area residents for going above and beyond to address traffic and pedestrian concerns.

Last month, the team installed flashing beacons at two uncontrolled crosswalks near the intersection of Kellogg Drive and Club View Drive in an unincorporated County island in Yorba Linda.

The residents and Yorba Linda County Club were very happy with the team's responsiveness and presented them with awards and a banner at a special thank you event.

Supervisor Spitzer thanks OCPW for their timely and caring response to Third District residents’ concerns!
