Progress on County Full Service Homeless Shelter |
|
Construction contractors work to finish Phase I of Orange County’s Kraemer Homeless Shelter in time to open this spring |
|
Orange County’s first full-service homeless shelter is slated to open its doors in a matter of weeks as contractors and construction crews work feverishly to meet a Board of Supervisors mandate to complete Phase I of the project and begin housing people suffering in homelessness by the beginning of May.
Supervisor Todd Spitzer is collaborating with his colleagues on the Board of Supervisors and staff on the project located in his Third District on Kraemer Avenue in Anaheim. The OC Department of Public Works is designing the shelter to begin operations with an emergency shelter component opening soon and the Phase II full-service component operational by next year.
Phase I will open with sheltered sleeping space for 100 people that includes bathroom and shower facilities. Construction that includes a kitchen and dining hall, office space and conference rooms will continue in development of Phase II. The full-service shelter will include health assessment, addiction referral, job counseling and transportation assistance all designed to help people suffering from homelessness get back on their feet. All program participants will be screened and registered with restrictions that exclude sex offenders and violent criminals. |

Saturday, April 8, 2017 - Mason Regional Park, Irvine
Save the date, Saturday April 8th for the Survive and Thrive 5K Run/Walk Health and Safety Expo. This is an official county event hosted in order to help raise money to support crime survivors and other charities.
As a former police officer, state assemblyman and assistant district attorney, public safety and victim’s rights has been a priority throughout my career. I’m proud to have co-authored Marcy’s Law and chaired the campaign to get the initiative passed by the voters in California in addition to supporting other bills making a difference to crime victims.
Please join our ongoing fight to support crime victims and families by organizing friends and co-workers, form a team to raise donations and participate with me in this year’s event. Vendor booths are still available. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy free food samples and drinks, live music and great vendors! All pre-registered participants receive a t-shirt, finisher medal and goody bag!
