Using the OC Parks app for iOS or Android, you can easily get outside and find a park near you with the most detailed, accurate maps of all regional, wilderness, beach and historic parks and regional trails operated by the County of Orange. The app also offers detailed park descriptions and photos.

The mobile app lets users easily locate the closest playgrounds, parking and restrooms in each park. Search recent OC Parks news, events and alerts regarding park access, weather, trail conditions and more.

The app also links to camping and picnic shelter reservations, some program registrations and annual parking pass purchases.

The new OC Parks app is free and available for download in the Apple and Google Play stores.

For helpful information about the 3-1-1 liquids rule for carry-on bags and other travel tips from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) please visit the TSA website.

Travelers are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and report questionable objects or activities, "If You See Something, Say Something™." To report a suspicious object or activity in the Riley Terminal, dial 0 from a white courtesy phone to reach an operator, or dial 2-5000 to reach Airport Police Services or notify an Airport employee or a uniformed officer. Guests may also dial 949-252-5200 from a mobile device.

Parking

Travelers should plan ahead and visit the Parking Availability section on ocair.com prior to arriving at the Airport or call 949-252-5200 to inquire about real-time parking availability.

Passenger Pickup/Drop Off

Drivers picking up passengers at the Airport are encouraged to utilize the Cell Phone Waiting Lot or the 2-hour parking spaces located on the lower level of Parking Structures A1, B2 and C. Access to Terminal parking structures is available from the Departure (upper) Level only. Color-coded and numbered columns along the white curb on the Arrival (lower) Level roadway make meeting arriving passengers easy. Column 14 is also a designated JWA Yellow Cab pickup location for Terminal C. Transportation Network Companies Uber, Lyft and Wingz utilize the color-coded and numbered columns to pick up passengers curbside on the Arrival (lower) Level roadway.

Measure M2 Progress Report
The Executive Committee received an update on the progress of Measure M2 projects in Orange County this week. Measure M2 is the county’s half-cent sales tax dedicated to transportation projects. Approved by Orange County voters in 2006, M2 took effect in 2011 for a 30-year period following the expiration of the original Measure M from 1991-2011. In the last five years, M2 has provided significant local benefits with funding to the six cities in the Fourth District below for the three months ending June 30, 2016 and since inception:

City 4th Quarter FY 2015-16 Funds to Date
Anaheim $1,785,761.42 $25,437,784.03
Brea $289,611.28 $4,277,436.60
Buena Park $487,770.02 $6,966,171.06
Fullerton $674,858.69 $9,704,685.28
La Habra $272,207.73 $3,959,825.68
Placentia $247,414.54 $3,534,941.59

Additionally, notable M2 capital project updates during the last quarter of FY 2015-16 in our community include:
  • The near completion of the Orangethorpe Avenue and Tustin Avenue/Rose Drive grade separation projects. Orangethorpe Avenue, from Miller Street to Chapman Avenue, was reopened to traffic on June 23, 2016. Construction is anticipated to be complete for both projects by the fall.

  • The approval of a new cooperative agreement with the City of Placentia that revised the scope of the Placentia Station project and budget. There will now be a parking structure as part of the project, and the City of Placentia will contribute towards the cost.

Supervisor Honors 150th Anniversary of Army Buffalo Soldiers
Congratulations and framed commendations were delivered to the recent Black Chamber of Commerce Awards and Recognition dinner from Supervisor Nelson to honor the patriotism of the 9th and 10th Cavalry of the United States Army that are known as Buffalo Soldiers.

The Annual Banquet was hosted by President and CEO Bobby McDonald with Master of Ceremonies Doug Wooley at the Disneyland Hotel before a packed house of over 600 supporters and friends of the Black Chamber of Orange County.

The dinner raised thousands of dollars that were given to deserving high school and college students who served in the military.

The night began with recognitions of 4 incredible students in Morgan Joe, Lindsey Kashiwabara, Lauren Chen and Fiona Huang who were regional winners of an essay contest that they submitted on the legacy of beginning Black History Month. Although they didn’t win statewide honors, the attending audience was amazed with the research, talent and presentation of their thesis and courage to challenge competition against the best student-authors in California.

The centerpieces of the evening were the honors bestowed on the very finest leaders and inspiring personalities who performed unbelievable missions in service to Orange County and America.

Orange County Business Council President Lucy Dunn received the Chamber’s Distinguished Service Award for her years of public policy advancement, enterprises and job-development, leading hundreds of companies with the OCBC and helping Veterans with jobs and opportunity.

Jo Ellen Chatham, chairperson of the Concordia University Center for Public Policy, was honored for her commitment to public administration, ethical politics, communications and promotion of education to promote the quality of life for Orange County.

Paul Matthews, Founder of the Buffalo Soldier National Museum, was honored for showcasing the history of the African-American military who defended the nation since the colonial days.

Founded by former slaves, freemen, and Black Civil War soldiers, the design of the 9th and 10th Army units gained such reputation as fierce fighters and uncanny bravery on the battlefield that the Indians named them ‘Buffalo Soldiers’ as a true warriors citation of respect.

In over 177 engagements in combat the Buffalo Soldiers delivered with valor and bravery that remains legendary in the American military.

Matthews received the Chambers 2016 Veterans and Business Award for his service to American history in keeping the Buffalo Soldiers spirit and inspiration alive in public events, lectures, school demonstrations and the coming Rose Parade that will be seen by 1 billion people on tv January 1, 2017.

The last honoree was Donald Craig, President of the NAACP Orange County Chapter for his 15 yrs of service and last 10 years as President of the organization giving face and voice to the challenges of African-Americans in Orange County with class and character.

His work was exemplary of the highest measures of civil rights, helping youth, scholarships, educational forums and community partnerships that earned him the 2016 Community Leadership Award by the Chamber.

All the recipients were presented with framed commendations signed by Supervisor Nelson and presented by Policy Advisor Steve Spernak who delivered the Supervisor’s congratulations for their performance and commitment to their individual missions to serve and preserve the very best of America for generations to come!
