Holy Fire Update
The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) remains in unified command with the United States Forest Service, CAL FIRE Riverside, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and California Highway Patrol.

The fire remained active last night. Once the smoke lifted at approximately 9:00 p.m. extreme fire behavior was observed to the north and east portions of the fire throughout Orange County. We received many calls on the public information line, but there is currently no threat to the communities of Orange County. The fire is currently estimated at 18,137 acres with five percent containment. Containment lines continue to be constructed and developed around the fire line, utilizing both ground and air resources. Steep terrain, dry fuels, and inaccessible areas continue to be a factor in the fire spread. Firefighting efforts are focused on defending communities and limiting the spread south toward Highway 74. The structure loss remains at 12.

Mandatory evacuation orders are still in effect for the areas of McVicker Canyon, Rice Canyon, Horsethief Canyon, El Cariso, Rancho Capistrano, Blue Jay, Indian Canyon, Glen Eden, Sycamore Creek, and Mayhew Canyon. Additional evacuations include the community of Shoreline within the Lake Elsinore area and Joplin Youth Center. More than 7,449 single family homes and 21,484 residents have been placed on mandatory evacuation. Highway 74 remains closed in both directions. Smoke and fire are impacting the interstate 15 corridor.

All public information lines have been forwarded to the County Emergency Operations Center at Loma Ridge. The call center is operating 24/7. The Joint Information Center (JIC), located in the OCFA Media Center, will be only for media, press releases, interviews and all information released by the incident to the Riverside County Emergency Management Department and County Emergency Operations Center. The planned hours of operation for the JIC are 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day based on the activity of the Holy Fire.

One Weekend Remains to Catch the OC Fair Express
Approximately 63,000 riders have taken the non-stop service from nine OC locations
People heading to the OC Fair have one more weekend to take advantage of the OC Fair Express Bus service to get there, allowing them to skip the traffic and parking hassles and save money in the process.

So far, more than 63,000 riders have hopped aboard the OC Fair Express during the first four weekends of the fair, which wraps up on Sunday, Aug. 12. The convenient non-stop bus service to the OC Fair continues this Saturday and Sunday.

The express bus provides service from nine locations to the OC Fair from approximately 10 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays.

Four of the pickup locations connect directly from Metrolink passenger rail stations. Riders can use their valid Metrolink and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner passes from connecting trains to ride the OC Fair Express for free.

Regular bus fare is $4 round-trip and riders will receive a coupon for $4 admission to the OC Fair – a savings of up to $10 off the regular entrance price. And bus riders also don’t have to pay the regular $10 cost to park a car.

Riders of the OC Fair Express ages 60 and over and those with disabilities ride for just 75 cents each way, and children 5 years and younger ride for free when accompanied by a paying adult. Metrolink and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner transfers also receive the $4 fair admission coupon.

Riders can also download the free OC Bus app to their mobile device to easily buy electronic tickets in advance and to check bus routes and schedules.

The OC Fair Express allows riders to avoid the lines of cars, and passengers are dropped off just feet from the entrance to the OC Fair.

Locations where riders can catch the OC Fair Express include:
  • Anaheim: Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center, 2626 E. Katella Ave.
  • Anaheim Canyon: Anaheim Canyon Metrolink Station, 1039 N. Pacificenter Drive
  • Fullerton: Fullerton Park-and-Ride, 3000 W. Orangethorpe Ave.
  • Huntington Beach: Goldenwest Transportation Center, 7301 Center Ave.
  • Irvine: Irvine Metrolink Station, 15215 Barranca Parkway
  • Laguna Hills: Laguna Hills Transportation Center, 24282 Calle de los Caballeros
  • Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink Station: 28200 Forbes Road, Laguna Niguel
  • Orange: The Village at Orange, 1500 E. Village Way
  • Santa Ana: The Depot at Santa Ana, 1000 E. Santa Ana Blvd.

The special bus service offered by the Orange County Transportation Authority had more than 87,000 total boardings during the five-week fair season last year.
The OC Fair Express bus service has been transporting passengers directly to the OC Fair every year since 2011.
The OC Fair Express is funded in part by a grant from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee. The committee provides subsidies for cleaner transportation alternatives.

In the Community
La Habra Corn Festival
The La Habra community gathered at El Centro Lions Park this past weekend for a parade, shopping, games, rides, and music! A variety of local vendors sold their products, from jewelry to the popular fidget spinners. Supervisor Nelson’s policy advisor Steve Spernak maintained a booth at the festival throughout the weekend and distributed County informational brochures and promotional items. On Saturday morning, the annual parade was a huge hit!

We extend our gratitude to the La Habra Lions Club, who as always successfully hosted this community event. The Corn Festival is the signature event for the La Habra Host Lions Club. It has been a success for decades and continues to be the highlight of the social calendar in La Habra.
