Board Updates
Property Tax Postponement Program
Orange County Treasurer Shari Freidenrich announces that the California Property Tax Postponement Program (PTP) application period has opened. Information is available on the Office of the State Controller’s website at sco.ca.gov/ardtax_prop_tax_postponement.html, by calling 800-952-5661 or by emailing the state at postponement@sco.ca.gov. Funding under the program is limited and available to applicants on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The PTP, which has been reinstated after being suspended by the Governor in 2009, offers housing security for seniors and homeowners with disabilities. The program allows eligible homeowners who are blind, disabled or at least 62 years of age to defer Fiscal Year 2018-19 property taxes on their principal residence if they meet certain established criteria.

“Interested applicants will need to submit a copy of their current year property tax bill along with other required documents,” stated Treasurer Freidenrich. An internet copy of your property tax bill is acceptable and can be found online at ocgov.com/octaxbill, by entering your APN or property address. Applicants can also access the property tax website by scanning the QR code below and then entering your APN or property address. The California Association of County Treasurers and Tax Collectors worked with the State Controller for over two years to reinstate this program to assist low income seniors or blind or disabled taxpayers.

To be eligible to apply for the PTP, applicants must be either blind, disabled or at least 62 years old. Applicants must also own and occupy the property as the principal place of residence, have a total household income of $35,500 or less, have at least 40 percent equity in the property, and must not have a reverse mortgage amount, among other requirements. Owners of mobile or manufactured homes are also ineligible to apply for the program. The Office of the State Controller will be accepting applications October 1, 2018, through February 10, 2019. The PTP only covers current property year taxes and not any prior year’s delinquent property taxes. Program participants must reapply each year. Applicants are responsible for paying their property taxes on time until their PTP application is approved. If a PTP application is approved after a property tax payment is made, the applicant will receive a refund for the amount paid less the amount due under the PTP program.

Homeowners can also click on the Treasurer’s website at ttc.ocgov.com and then on the Property Tax Postponement icon to access the State’s PTP website.

Second Tri-City Park Fishing Derby a huge success!
Supervisor Nelson and OC Parks hosted a second kids fishing derby at Tri City Park in Placentia on Saturday, October 6. The lake was stocked with over 3,000 pounds of catfish and the event had over 1200 kids participate. A treat for the kids was having Undersheriff Don Barnes attend and give out tons of prizes at our raffle. The Fourth District wants to thank OC Parks staff and their volunteers who were on hand to help with the bait, registration and weighing the winning fish!

Komen Race for the Cure
Congratulations, hugs and tears abound annually at the Komen “Race for the Cure” and the 2018 rally was no exception as some 15,000 women, families, staff and survivors attended their 27th annual Susan G. Komen fundraiser at Fashion Island last Sunday.

Hosted by Pacific Life and another dozen sponsors, the event is a fundraiser and public relations medium to encourage women to stay on top of their health with examinations and regular formal checkups to prevent breast cancer.

Policy Advisor Steve Spernak made his eighth appearance on behalf of Supervisor Nelson and the entire Board with his delivery of the a support proclamation from all the residents of OC to Lisa Wolter of the Komen OC Team.

The event featured some 15,000 all dressed in pink who walked or ran the 5k around Fashion Island. Spernak enjoyed taking the traditional photos with the Costa Mesa Cheer Team on the front steps of the Pacific Life building while holding the OC “Battle Flag’. Copy of the photos are then sent to the team as a thanks by Supervisor Nelson for cheering-on the thousands who walk/run the circle at Fashion Island.

Special thanks were also delivered to MC Ed Arnold who did all the program announcements in front of thousands of women and 727 cancer survivors were applauded as they held up a single rose as doves were released to honor the lost.

Since 1991, Komen OC has raised $40 million dollars and with $957,000 donated in 2018, they need your help to make it to their goal of $1.5 million.

If you would like to make a donation in honor of your Mom or family member lost to or fighting breast cancer, please contact LWolter@komenoc.org or call Komen OC at (714) 957-9157.

Tacos and Tequila Fun in Placentia
Congratulations to Michele Severson and the entire Placentia Chamber of Commerce for a successful night of friendships, family and food at the first-ever Tacos and Tequila night at Kraemer Park.

The admission-free event was hosted at the bottom flats of Kraemer Park where the tables and stands were surrounded by food vendors and spirits teams.

Both the Chamber and the Old Town Merchants Association with Rosalina Davis can take all the credit for the restaurants who set up grills and their best bbq from Tlaquepaque Restaurant, Mi Casita Restaurante, Cocina Azteca, Salt & Ash Bar and Kitchen, Meat Up BBQ, Rems Lounge, and Tiscareno's City Bistro and Deli.

Ice cold beers flowed from crews working the Craftsman Pizza and Kelly’s bar, both local favorites for sports fans and community events.

Entertainment was provided by DW3, an R&B/Soul band, emceed by Jose Rizo, a band leader, composer and disc jockey on KKJZ radio. The event was a big success and the City of Placentia is excited to be able to partner and support City organizations to bring new events to the community.

The Tacos nite will become a regular end-of-summer gala and a nice warmup for the coming Heritage Days parade and city festival at Tri-City Park, the Kids Fishing Tournament Oct 6th at Tri-City Park lake and wrapping up 2018 the always popular Las Posadas / Tamale Festival in Old Town in December.

For information on City events, please contact the Community Services Department at (714) 993- 8232.

Western High Varsity Football Honored
If ever there was a “Cinderella Story” in OC sports, last weekend had to be it.

Trailing the game against a powerful and perennial CIF challenger, Western QB Anthony Munoz, who has lead the OC stats in passing yardage and touchdowns, looked to the corner to see receiver Caine Savage streaking through the defense into the corner.

Munoz set up the pass and threw a perfect strike to Savage for the win and a lifetime piece of Western High School athletic history as he delivered the victory with 9 seconds left and the 35-31 upset.

Savage was also honored by the OC Register Sports Editors as OC Offensive Player of the Week for his heroics in the endzone with 9 seconds left.

At 5-1, Western will soon enter League competition and our prayers and blessings are with the Pioneers as they make a bid to be league champions and get a bid to go to CIF.
