50-Year Time Capsule Plaque Dedication

Click on the image above to view a video.

On August 29, 1966, a Time Capsule was sealed within a large boulder in Dana Point Harbor during a large public ceremony. At that time, the thousands of attendees were given tickets for a free BBQ dinner 50 years later at a celebration that would unveil the content of the Time Capsule.

On August 29, 2016, we delivered on the promise made 50 years earlier. This major undertaking was enormously successful thanks to the collaborative effort of a number of organizations and individuals that participated in the Dana Point Harbor 50-Year Time Capsule Celebration Planning Committee, including my office, OC Parks, OC Archives, the City of Dana Point, Dana Point Historical Society, Dana Point Harbor Association, Dana Point Chamber of Commerce, Ocean Institute, among others.

On Tuesday, August 29, 2017, the one-year anniversary of last year’s 50-Year Time Capsule Celebration, all those involved in that outstanding effort will reunite at a special dedication ceremony for a new commemorative plaque that will be placed on The Rock at Baby Beach in Dana Point Harbor, which will join the original plaque placed on The Rock back in 1966. I invite you to please join us at this special dedication ceremony!

Check Out the New Flight Tracker at JWA
Earlier this week, John Wayne Airport (JWA) publicly launched an upgraded flight track viewer that is made available to the public on the JWA website, ocair.com.

JWA’s Flight Track Viewer, developed by BridgeNet and powered by VOLANS, is a 3d software application that provides a user-friendly interface making it easy for the public to view accurate aircraft flight tracks online.

The upgrade to the platform provides a number of benefits including color coding of aircraft for quick determination if they are arrivals, departures, or overflights as well as making the platform mobile compatible; so you can now get accurate flight tracks from the JWA software on your smart phone and tablet.

You can get to the flight tracker by clicking the ‘Flight Track Viewer’ icon on the ocair.com home page or by clicking HERE. The online user guide can also be found at the link.

Crown Valley Park Entry Improvements

This week, my office was pleased to present a certificate of recognition to the City of Laguna Niguel in honor of the Crown Valley Park Entry Improvements Dedication Ceremony.

The new entry improvements at Crown Valley Park is the second of three major renovation projects planned for the Park. A new culvert crossing will replace the existing dip crossing so that the park entry does not need to be closed due to flooding during large rainstorms. The new bridge will also include decorative lighting, along with sidewalks and bike lanes on each side to enhance pedestrian safety and access to the park. A new decorative metal archway spanning across the entry drive will highlight the entrance to the park.

Two new parking lots with convenient access from Crown Valley Parkway will add approximately 66 new parking spaces for park users. The northerly lot can be accessed from the park entry road before crossing the new entry bridge and will be convenient for softball and lower soccer field users. The southerly lot will have direct access from Crown Valley Parkway and will be convenient for upper soccer field and trail users. A new staircase will provide direct access to the upper soccer field.

A new entry monument sign with enhanced raised planters and landscaping will highlight the new entry to the park. Digital electronic marquee signs will replace the existing changeable copy signs that can be used to feature a variety of City and community events and recreation programs.

The project also includes restoration of the creek, water quality improvements and the conversion of the Niguel Botanical Preserve from potable to reclaimed water.
