New Orange County Animal Shelter Opens!

My Board colleagues and I with local elected officials cutting the ribbon at the new OC Animal Shelter.

This week, I was pleased to join my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors and our 14 partner cities to cut the ribbon at our brand new OC Animal Shelter. The opening of this new modern facility is a significant step toward enhancing the County's animal care services.

My colleagues and I with County department heads at the ribbon cutting.

While there are many pressing issues countywide, the new animal care system highlights what we can do when we turn over every stone to make something better. Our new animal shelter, local adoption centers and engaging community events are among many examples of my commitment to make Orange County the best place to live, work and play.

Check out my op-ed piece for more information about our new animal shelter!

Bruce Cameron will be signing his books at the 2018 South County Pet Expo.

The 2018 South County Pet Expo is pleased to present special guest, W. Bruce Cameron, author of the New York Times Bestseller and major motion picture, “A Dog’s Purpose,” starring Dennis Quaid. Cameron, who recently finished shooting his latest movie, “A Dog’s Way Home,” starring Ashley Judd, will be at the Pet Expo to conduct a book signing for all attendees.

This family and pet friendly event will feature rescue groups with many loving animals available for adoption, fun and exciting canine demonstrations, local vendors providing all manner of pet products and services, as well as food trucks, music and entertainment.

As an added bonus, Mount of Olives Church – Mission Viejo will perform a special Blessing of the Animals for all pets present at the Expo! DUI Checkpoint in Mission Viejo Tonight

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Department's DUI Enforcement Team will be deploying in the City of Mission Viejo from 7 PM Friday, March 9, to 3 AM Saturday, March 10 to stop and arrest alcohol and drug impaired drivers in the Department's ongoing safety campaign. DUI Saturation Patrols will deploy in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests in the City of Mission Viejo.

Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving, which now accounts for a growing number of impaired driving crashed.

Drivers are encouraged to download the Designated Driver VIP, or "DDVIP" free mobile app for Android or iPhone. The DDVIP app helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver, from free non-alcoholic drinks to free appetizers and more. The feature-packed app even has social media tie-ins and a tab for the non-DD to call Uber, Lyft or Curb.

Remember, if you see a drunk driver, call 9-1-1.

Daytime Lane Closure on Northbound I-5

Northbound I-5 will be reduced to three lanes from 9 AM to 2 PM Tuesday, March 13, and Wednesday, March 14, from Avenida Vista Hermosa to Camino de Estrella. The daytime lane closures are necessary because of temperature requirements for striping work. Motorists should expect delays and use alternate routes if possible.

Please be advised, dates and times are subject to change if there is inclement weather or there are unforeseen operational factors.
